A clock

Ha! This should have been submitted on Clock Day! This would've been very fitting. :D

Well, not much to say about this one. Three different ways to display the time. A digital clock, a "textual clock" and an old style clock with roman numbers.

I like the idea of the background changing it's colour over time, it's a nice little extra touch.

But I was a bit surprised the clock did display the right time for me, since I live in a different time zone (one hour ahead of UK time). So, where does the clock did get the right time? --a simple test later-- OK, it's displaying my system time. So, does this work for different OS's as well or only for Windows? ^^

Anyway, this test turned out to be succesful. ;)

Simple, but addictive

A very simple setup. One gun, many shape-opponents, some explosions and blood effects. This is you game in one sentence. But is this really everything? No, there is some kind of leveling system, I can buy new guns, increase the power of my guns, increase my health, etc. . Still very simple, but somehow this game is very addictive. Maybe it's the simplicity of the game that makes it so addictive. No long introduction is needed. I can just load up the game and play it for a few levels.

Also I thought the sniper wasn't that useless. It's not as loud as the cannon and I hit with every shot, lol. ^^

Anyway, I think the simplicity is also the biggest flaw of the game. I played it until level 10 and still no enemy had hit me. Maybe the difficulty should increase slowly but surely when the player advances through the levels. Not only more opponents, but also stronger opponents (=introduce different/stronger shapes in higher levels). Maybe even some sort of boss fight every 5 levels or so? The boss could slowly advance towards the player and once he reaches him he starts advancing again from the edge of the screen, or something like that

Simple and enjoyable, but could be so much better

The game is simple but it's fun to play. The robot may not have a lot of personality, but for some reason I quite liked the character. :)

The controls are simple as well, but at least they work without any flaws. This made the game so much more enjoyable. ^^
Maybe you should let the player advance the text with the space bar as well, that way we can keep our hands at the keyboard and don't have to use the mouse so often.

The elevator puzzle was a nice touch to the game, but maybe it was one or two screens too long.

When I got to the end fight I was really puzzled as I couldn't figure out what to do here. I could move around and dodge bullets (some still hit me, even though they flew by... hit detection seems to be a bit off here). But I couldn't hurt the final boss. Only time I hurt him was when the game told me to use the wind power again.

So, while this game IS enjoyable it leaves a lot to be desired. It would be really nice if I could use the items I get any time I want. That way you could introduce some screens where I have to use a special power item to beat it, which would make the game much better, imo.

EventHorizon responds:

Thanks for this useful review and for your advice, I wanted to put the space bar instead of the mouse but it caused problems so I prefer the mouse, in this game I wanted to add more features like the ones you listed but I had no more time also because I started this game too later!

Good layout

Your soundboard is done pretty good. The sounds are clear and easy to understand. However, there where three sounds that had some sort background noise: "Kneecap", "Lotta good... gun" and "What you looking at?" all had a strange noise just at the end of the sound file.

Anyway, I liked that you added the theme song for the scout, this is a nice touch. Some of the quotes from Scout also fit quite good to the music, so it's possible to create a "best of scout" song now. ^^

The layout of the soundboard is pretty nice. Some soundboards tend to be an awful mess and it's impossible to find a sound again, but your soundboard looks very clean and sorted. All the buttons have an easy to read text, so it's easy to find the sound you want to hear.

Basic

Looks like some kind of mock up for the "real" game to me. The graphics aren't what I would call "pretty". They look too simple and sometimes even quite sloppy.

I couldn't hear any sound effects, which made the game a bit boring to play. Some gunfire sounds and/or background music would've been a good touch.

While the enemies that spawn in front of me are easy to fight (simply keep the space bar pressed down) the enemies that spawn behind me are impossible to fight. They will always get at least one shot at me before I even have a chance to realize they are there. This makes the game impossible to beat. Enemies shouldn't be able to shoot while they still are off screen.

Games like Metal Slug are incredibly hard, but not one single enemy in this game is able to shoot at the player while he's still off screen. I suggest you take a good look at Metal Slug like games to know what I am talking about. You could also let such games inspire you to make a few more adjustments to your own game.
Right now all the enemies are on ground level. Why not have them spawn at some higher places like a rooftop or something like that? This way the game still can reach a high difficulty level and it becomes less repetitive.

I had trouble with the rear enemies, myself. Heh. Also, I think I have played Metal Slug on XBLA(I'm not sure why it's called "Metal Slug", though). Your bug reports are appreciated and will be taken into consideration for the next update(or a "Remastered Edition") of this game. Thank you. (^_^)

Sound effects are missing

Not really a good game, but not really a bad game either. The basics are all there: A working game mechanic, time limit, a score counter. But I think the game can be quite hard for a beginner, since the animals are moving at a pretty high speed. It's also sometimes very frustrating when you click and click, but you keep missing the critter. Some indication of where you are shooting would be nice (bullets flying, or some sort of impact on the background).

I was also missing sound effects here. A simple splash noise when an animal is hit (either by a bullet or by a spike) and of course some gun fire sounds.

Good tutorial

A nicely written tutorial, even a total flash noob like me could easily reproduce the steps. Also very helpful is that you showed an easy, yet very effective way to create some nice lightening effects.

I liked the minimalistic layout of your tutorial, because this way we can focus only on the text, nothing distracts our concentration.

However, the music wasn't looping, which I found a bit confusing. I mean, usually I turn off the music when I have the chance to do so, but this time I let it play and was surprised it only played once and then stopped.

Could be a good (and very hard) game

This could turn into quite a good game, but it needs some more polishing here and there. The jumping parts (and this game IS mostly about jumping) are pretty hard and the timing is not easy to master. I think it would help if the character could jump only a little higher, or if the "air time" was a little longer. Sometimes I had the feeling the guy hits the ground only a fraction of a second after I hit the space bar and because of this I often missed jumps.
Also the wall jumps are a very difficult thing to do, because the game seems to be a tad bit too fast (for me anyways ^^).

I didn't play the game for too long since I got frustrated after I missed a jump for the umpteenth time in a row...

Anyway, to give this review a more positive note:
As I've said, this could turn into a good game. I like the design of the game. It's simple, yet very effective. I also like the game music. It is quite relaxing and it keeps itself in the background very nicely.

Nice game

The unbelievable adventure of Nick and Corey continues. If I wouldn't see it with my own eyes I wouldn't believe it.

The mix between real life action scenes and action games is pretty good. The scenes in between the games aren't too long, though the games might have been a bit longer and maybe a bit more difficult, heh.

But anyway, the scenes are funny and the games are entertaining, so I guess everything is all right here.

The only thing that bothers me is that sometimes the voices create some static noises. Those are really annoying and hurt my ears.

Other than that: Good work!

MonoFlauta responds:

static noises? are they very loud? just because i cant hear team lol, anyway, sorry if they appear probably is because the camera or the microphon.
Other than that
great that you like the game!
Thanks for reviewing!

Nice game

Pretty nice game, but it has some minor flaws that prevent it from being a very good game.
First of all, the controls are somewhat too smooth. The character slides around when running and the ability to slide down the walls isn't that well done as well. The first guard shot me twice before I could hit him because my character was still sliding down that small wall.
Maybe you could change this by making not all walls "slideable", but only larger ones (it also looks a bit odd to see him slide down a very small ledge).

The graphics are neat, but everything seems to be so small. A slightly bigger character would also allow some more details and I think it wouldn't hurt the game that much.

Voice acting would be cool thing to have, I think it would add that extra touch to the game that it's currently missing.

Me and a friend who I work with were actually having a discussion about how I zoom things too far out in games. He usually gets me to zoom things back in before we release games we work together haha. I need to get an eye for that

Thanks!
