Interesting at first, but gets boring quickly

It's interesting at first, but the patterns repeat themselvs very quickly. Also the levels don't seem to get harder the further you got, but some of the later leves seem to be even easier than the previous ones.

The main problem I had with this game is the hit detection. Sometimes I died even though I didn't touch anything. There was plenty of room between me and the rockets/bullets but yet I died.

Thanks for the review, I think that the level progression could use some work, and the hit detection is a very common complaint. Thanks for the review, it's appreciated.

Nice little tool, but could be improved a bit

The generator itself works just fine and it's fun to play around with it for a bit. But the fun quickly vanishes after a few tries.

I think with a few more features it could be made a bit better. For example we should be able to add more buttons (most error messages have three buttons: "Ok", "Ignore" and "Cancle"). A few more icons would be nice as well. Don't necessarily have to be real icons you could see in real error messages, but I think a few more icons would add more possibilites to the generator.

Lastly - and I don't really know if this could be implemented - an option to save the error message as an image would be a nice thing to have. Right now if I want to save the message, I'd have to take a screenshot, but this can get annoying really quickly.

I think in AS3 it can be done, but even then I'm sure it would be pretty hard.
If I ever get Flash CS3/CS4, I'll look into it.

Good game

A nice little game with pretty good controls and a nice concept. The training modes explained very well what I could expect from this game and they also explained how to play it. ^^

Some things came in the game unexpected, though. At first I didn't even notice the pipes where blowing out air. I thought it was a nother obstacle that destroys my bubble. So, a warning of other things in the tutorial like Kirbyfemur suggests would be a nice thing.

Also, the time on the challenge levels was pretty tight, but... that's why they are called a "challenge", right? ^^

Thanks for the review!
im pretty happy you only had to comment on two niggly little things, for next time ill try to explain it more in depth :)
The challange levels couldnt be too hard though or too easy

Decent attempt

The controls are pretty good, the physics work out quite well. There are some nasty bugs here and there, sometimes the dot just falls through the plattform when it's not supposed to do so. Also in level 8 I fell through the plattform (yeah, the dot is supposed to do that), but the level didn't restart. Instead I just had a white screen.
Also, the music suddendly stops on level 15, which is a bit weird.

You should try to add some backgrounds into the game. It looks a lot nicer than just a white screen. It would be even better (but a lot harder) if the backgrounds where involved in the gameplay. Instead of just giving us black lines as plattforms chose some objects from the background we could jump on. This would make the game a lot more insteresting.

Thanks for the review but I AM still a beginner.

Good concept

The concept is pretty nice, and the graphics are decent as well, even though they are just black and white.

The music - even though just a short loop - is cool and fits to the game. Also, the "splat" sound was good as well, even though it would be nice to hear various splat sounds in the game.

The game is lacking in the controls section. It is not possible to move backwards, or just really really slow, because the screen constantly moves to the right. So if you missed a caveman it is nearly impossible to move to the left and still get him. This is annoying, especially because more often than not they just run around happily under your feet. But instead of being stomped on, they just continue to move to the left.

Sorry it's so tricky to catch the cavemen. You can move backwards but it is really slow, unless you step on an alien then controls are reversed for a moment and you walk backwards. Where the footprint is left when you stomp is the collision area for splating the cavemen. I hope that helps

Good

This is a pretty good game. I like how the colors of the stars you had to collect changed all the time. This added some more challenge to the game, as I had to always keep an eye out for which stars where "good" and which wheren't.

The texts in the menu where a bit hard to read. I suggest you use a bigger font here, so I don't have to come so close to the monitor to make out the words.

Also, some music would be nice to have. Maybe add 3 or 4 songs from the audio portal and an option to turn the music off. That way someone who likes to listen to music while playing could choose from different songs and someone who doesn't want to listen to music could simply turn it off.

chesster415 responds:

Thanks for the review, I probably should make the menu text clearer. There should have been music starting at the begining of the game. Apparently it didn't, I may have accidentally put an old version of the swf here. But, you should still be able to put in a url from the audio portal to play from the options menu. Or just leave the bar blank to reload the default music.

Needs more work

Designing unique dress up games is a hard task as there are already so many out there. But it's a good way to practise action script, I guess.

This could've used some more backgrounds than just a simple blue one. And the boy could have used a body, which would be far more interesting to dress than just the face.

The music didn't fit here that well, it just makes the flash file bigger (there wasn't that much else to load. The "kick a ball" minigame and the graphics of the main game don't take up more than a few hundred kb) and annoys people quickly. At least an option to turn it off would've been nice.
On a side note: Even in times where many people (myself included) have flatrates, there are still people out there that can only use dial up connections. Plus, even with a flat rate, download rates can be quite low in some countries. So it is still important to keep the filesize as low as possible.

What I liked most where the shades. They where transparent which looked really good.

Not that good

I didn't like this flash too much. Graphics aren't that good. One background pic you just took from the portal and the strawberry doesn't look that good either.

Then, SBC only has a few predesigned answers, that he even gives if you just click "go" without entering any text in the box.
I can imagine that it is very hard to design a flash like this so that the answers are unique, but this attempt here is a bit poor. Especially the "Why are you asking me"-answer is a bit silly. I ask you because this flash is entitled "Ask A Clock".

The idea to insert the username in the flash is nice, but the space before and after my name is just too big, it looks pretty weird.

Not good

Wow, this was pretty bad. Graphics aren't a major concern in tutorials, but a bit more eye candy doesn't hurt as well. Here we just have black rectangles with red texts as buttons, a white background and some strange looking circle with arms that mubmles constantly.

A tutorial should explain how to do something and it should explain why this line of code is necessary and why that line should be there and not here, etc. .

Just giving people the code and saying "copy this" doesn't help them at all.

It was also pretty annoying that I had to click "play" constantly after hitting the "end" button. Just take the viewer back to the main menu.

piggy123 responds:

there was a real tutorial but it got messed when i added the preloader!

Not too detailed

I didn't really understand what exactly you did when you drew the body. More explanations would be nice here. Also, a short clip of a body being drawn could help as well.

The steps for the body parts where more detailed, but still short clips would help more than just the drawing steps.

Also, the navigation only has the most basic part, a forward button. I cannot go back; if I want to see a previous step again I have to start over the whole flash.
A little menue where I can jump to certain steps would also be a good idea.
