Nice song

A nice song, but I think the drums should be a bit more powerful. Especially the cymbal/hi hat sounds a bit strange.

But other than that the song sounds very nice and has a good beat along with nice melodies.

Also the progression of the song is very nice. It starts off very slow, but new things are added constantly, which keeps the listener interested in the song.

I think the outro is a bit of a let down, I think it would work better if you just ended on a single beat without the slight fade you have added there.

Thanks for your review.

Turned out well

So, you freestyled you say? Well, nothing wrong with that, especially when the result sounds so good like in this song.
While the song is indeed all over the place, this is what it makes sound interesting. The song gets unpredictable and this is what kept me listening to this song over and over again. There always where some parts I wanted to listen to again.

I just listened to the original again and I like the freestyle mix a lot better. :)

Bracksta responds:

thanks Haggard :D, i'm glad to here positive input from you. i was afraid that the freestyle mix would be to all over the place for people, but i am glad that is not the case :). I need to go back and freestyle some more of my music :D.

Nice, but keeps itself in the background too much

A good song, but it seems to be a bit... "bland". It's just that there doesn't seem to be any climax in this song.
Yes, I know this was posted in the "Ambient" genre and many ambient songs don't have anything like a climax. I just don't know how I could describ this better.

Anyway, I'm not trying to say that this song is bad - because it isn't. I like the melodies in this song. They sound indeed very "stealthy" and especially the main melody (we can hear it already right from the beginning of the song) creates a "stealthy" atmosphere. It sounds as if there's a threat behind every corner and I have to be careful to not be seen by anyone.

The mixing is done pretty nice as well. Everything can be heard just fine without any melodies or instruments being overpowered by other instruments.

Well, this was my first spin on stealthy-ambient music. But next time I'll aim for more pizazz in my composition. But I am glad that I met my goal, that this song does sound stealthy. That was my main focus and the fact that I accomplished it is a great joy =). I'm glad you liked the mixing. Mixing and mastering is one of the most irritating things I do in my life (yet fun), but it has to be done. This is probably my best mixed song yet.
Thanx for the review!

Good song

Very nice song. I really like the strings here. They create a very calm and relaxing atmosphere. There is also some kind of melancholy in the atmosphere... maybe someone who's sitting in front of a fireplace thinks about someone he once loved but who has left him (or who died a long time ago).

Too bad the song is screwed up a bit at around the 0:27 mark, the tone there nearly breaks off.

Later on the song gets also some kind of jazzy feeling because of the vibraphone that sometimes has a very happy feel to it when it plays some fast notes. Here I think of that someone I mentioned above and he in turn thinks of the good times he had with this loved person. The melancholic feeling is still there, but it's mixed with happy feelings as well. A very nice way to end the song. It indicates that you shouldn't just sit there depressed, thinking about what once was, but that you should look ahead instead. There's a future for you out there! :)

Great song, but low quality

Wow, this is a truly great song! First of all it's a nice change from what usually gets requested in the RRC (mostly songs made with FL Studio or something similar). While those songs are in no way bad, it still is nice to hear "real" music for a change. :)

The sound quality is a bit low, which hurts the song a bit. Sometimes the drums are too loud, especially when the cymbal is played and it's hard to make out the other instruments then.

But the song still is very nice, especially the voice. It sounds a bit dissonant from time to time and you also have some moments where you scream a bit. I really like this as it fits good to the music and to the lyrics as well.

So, the only advice I could give you is that you try to record this in a better quality. But I guess this is easier said than done.

ShanZE responds:

It popped into my mind also that it would be nice for you to review something different and I also want more reviews because although I'm not in the bottom of the grunge list, I've still got such a small number of reviews which leaves me with a lot of questions. Actually it would be nice to know why my songs don't really draw that much attention, would be nice to know what the reason is since nobody never really said that any of my songs are bad. Or maybe I just don't have that kind of luck :D So far, anyway!

Yeah the quality is a bit low, especially the acoustic guitar. That will be fixed when I'm able to buy a better soundcard and a mic etc... It's always the money. It's nice that you also remember to tell what is good about the song while being honest about the rest as well, I really like your reviews. Makes me believe in myself again. So, thanks to you a lot again!

I will record this in a better quality, no doubt. It's one of my best songs and one of those that deserve a better package.

Great song

It's a very nice song that creates a very good and melancholic atmosphere.

I like the slow build up. At this points it's also not clear in which direction the song might be going. It could also be the intro to a hardcore techno song, heh.
But that's what I like about it, the openess of the intro.

I also like that the song stays so calm and keeps itself in the background so nicely. Sometimes this "keeping itself in the background" sounds awfully boring, but you managed to let the song still sound very nice and not boring at all!

Also, the outro is nice as well. Good work! :)

Thanks, I love this song and it loves you!

Nice

I like the atmosphere the song creates. It really seems as if there's something not right, as if some traitor is among the persons in the room.

Too bad the main melody is so repetitve, though. A few changes here and there would be pretty nice.

aliaspharow responds:

Yeah well... the song isn't meant to be the main attraction. it is suppose to represent something or to go with a video or something. But for the repetitiveness, i guess adding a fiew instruments here and there would be nice. thanks for the review! very appreciated.

This song has a very nice beat and even though I'm not a hughe fan of reversed cymbals, the drums sound good as well. Okay, the sound quality of the drums isn't that good (it's pretty noticeable that you used a preset), but what the drums are playing sounds good.

I think all the editing you did payed off in the end. While I haven't heard an earlier version of this I think that now the mastering is complete. Everything can be heard just fine and the piano has a very good volume.

Also even though the song is only 2:50 long you added a lot of different parts to this, so the song never gets boring. Good work!

Step responds:

Not a huge fan of reversed cymbals? That's a first :P. Well, the drums were just random sounds I got from the Internet. I'm glad the editing payed off, it's something I worked pretty hard on (I didn't ACTUALLY master this. I just twisted a few volume knobs here and there, and ended up with a rather good mix. Anyway, glad you enjoyed my song. It is a little on the short side, but that's the thing about me. When I make a really good song, I can't stand continuing it, and want to submit it ASAP :P. oh well, thanks a lot for the review, and keeping my 10/10 perfect score so far XD.

Good beat, but very repititve

The ryhthm of this song is very nice, but there isn't too much else happening in this song. A main melody or some more parts that break up the structure of the song would be nice. It also would make the song less repititve.

Also, the song doesn't loop that well. It's quite noticeable when the loop starts over.

I-Saved-The-World responds:

Thank you for the review, i admit, it is a little repetitive. But it is a minutue long loop. And It loops well if you download and listen to the file.

Your feedback is appreciated, and ill keep in mind what you've said. :)

Very interesting mix of genres

Wait, do the people go to the fifth floor and then jump out of the window to kill themselves or do they go there after they tried to commit suicide?-.-

Anyway, the song is really nice. The mix between ambient and DnB is something I never heard before, but it seems to work perfect. At least it works the way you did it.

At first the song was a bit too slow for me. The DnB only seems to be more present at the later parts of the song, but after I listened to it a few times the atmosphere you create with the ambient sounds in the earliert parts grew on me. At first I thought the atmosphere was a bit boring, but after a few listens I now think it's a very good atmosphere. Somewhere between spooky, creepy and mysterious.

I now also appreciate the slow build up, I realized that the song - or rather the atmosphere of it - would be destroyed if you start with heavy DnB right away. Now you keep the listener interested and the slow build up makes the song a lot less repititve. :)

So I would advise THE LISTENER to listen to this track more than once. It's totally worth it! ;)

i shouldnt lawl, but i fuckin did, when people try and kill themselves but fail, they are sent to the fifth floor

the song is about death, so i agree that it wouldnt sound bad for it to ust jump in with a heavy ass drum beat, i kinda saved those for the climax of the song :)

im really happy with the atmosphere i created, i spent quite a bit of time on it

glad you liked it dude, thanks for a great review

peace out
