Medieval battles

The intro creates a very good atmosphere. It instantly makes me think of some great medieval battles between hughe armies (Braveheart style ^^).

The song developes this atmosphere even further the longer it plays.

However, I think the song should be a bit more fast pace to create a even better "battle like feeling". Right now it feels more like as if the two armies are facing each other, waiting for their commanders to give the order to attack the enemy.

Thanks for this helpful review :-)

Good

The intro sounds a bit muffled at first, but it gets better after a few seconds.

I like that you put in various parts with various melodies. This keeps the song from getting too repititive.

Sometimes all that can be heard is the background beat. I guess it should function as some kind of connection between the parts, but for me it doesn't quite work out. Maybe if you changed the "connection beat" a bit it would work better. Maybe all that is missing is just a hi-hat there.

Thanks for the good review! Glad everyone is liking the non-Repetitiveness of it.

Good

A very good mix of your usual playing and some heavy industrial drums. Still I'd say this is more "Heavy Metal" than "Industrial". To be more industrial it needs more heavy drums and a heavier beat overall. Plus it has to sound more sinister. At least in my opinion.

But that doesn't mean I dislike this song. I think the experiment worked out very well! :)

Yeah, it was hard to make up my mind about the genre of this song ... Maybe I did the wrong choice :P. I still can change the genre, so I will : ). Thanks for your reviews bro, it's awesome to hear your opinion ;).

Great

Great guitar playing as always. I think I said it before, but I will happily repeat myself here: I really admire your playing, sonofkirk! :D

The song has some very nice melodies and I like the changes, like at 0:54. It makes the song very diversified and keeps the listener interested.

Still I think this needs some vocals. Some parts in the song are pretty much perfect for some vocals.

Sonofkirk responds:

I'm glad you enjoy my playing man, it means a lot coming from you :D. Keep on repeating yourself on my other songs lmao.

Thanks, since this is prog metal, changes are frequent especially about time signatures, I used TONS of weird and odd time sigs on this song.

Yeah, I always need vocals on my songs, sadly I can't sing. I'm going to ask Bad-Man to add some kick ass vocals on it, like he did with Corky's theme.

Thanks a lot for the review Haggard, I like to read reviews like that, constructive and helpful :). \m/

Nice

A nice rock track. Nothing more, but nothing less! I like the trumpets here a lot. They give the track some sort of a jazz feeling.

But this song definitely needs some vocals! I mean, everything is set up for some lyrics. There are some parts where the instruments don't play that loud, as if they are taking themselvs back so that the singer can be heard better... but there's no singer present. :(

Anyway, nice song!

Thanks for the review! Yeah, I had some vocals in mind, but never got around to it.

Good song

I like the intro a lot. It starts very calm and slowly the synth fades in. The synth also offers a nice melody. At first I was afraid that this would turn into another run-of-the-mill-techno-song. But luckily it didn't. Instead you created something quite original here.

Only thing is that it gets a little repititve after a while. I think with some lyrics this song would be even better!

thx for the review

Nice

I had this running in the background for quite a while. It's a very nice tune.

I like how calm it is and I think this would make a very good "Town Theme" in a RPG. I also like how the different instruments work together to create this half calm half sad atmosphere.

Two different tracks, two different tacts

This sounds as if you first had the background beat and then clicked randomly around to create some sort of melody. But you didn't care that much about paces or tacts here... it sounds as if the keyboard and the drums don't belong together, but if I was listening to two different songs at the same time.

Also, the cymbal is very annoying and shouldn't be used on every 4th beat.

First of all, I did not really entirely make this. Mikkim, my friend, told me what I should do, so I made something and he liked it. I have almost no idea how to make songs

Nice melody

The background beat is a little bit too generic, but you make up for this with the amazing melody you created. It is very catchy and also some of the effects you put in there sound pretty funny.

Too bad the song is so short, though.

la-yinn responds:

Aye, well, I wanted a simple kick to keep a steady flow. It's the most generic percussion you can think of, but it gets the job done. ;p

Amazing melody, eh? :D Haha, thanks!

Aye, it's short. But a V2 is in the making, so I'm happy with all the advice I get from reviews. Next version WILL be longer and WILL be less repetitive.

Thanks for the review!

Catchy

Very catchy song, but it has to be used very carefully or else it would get annoying pretty fast.
If I hear this in a flash submission once in a short level, or after I beat a level it would be ok. But it I would hear this in a puzzle game for example, it would drive me nuts. ^^

Anyway, I like the cheerful atmosphere this song creates.

Absolutely right. Someone else told me to take out the count-in so it can loop better and I was all "whaaa-??"

Anyway, I'm glad you liked it, thanks for the review!
