Il est dix-huit ans?

Oh, that was two years ago. Anyway, happy way belated birthday. -.-

A very nice use of the SMB theme here. I really like the faster pace of this piece and the added drums make it sound so much better. Less repititve than the original, because there's just more to listen to, heh.

The outro is also pretty good. A different approach than just the normal fade out or the "all end on that beat!".

Haha thanks for the frenchized title :P. You should have said "Il a dix huit ans" but that's a nice try :). Thanks for the compliments although that song is quite bad heh. <3

Starts boring, becomes awesome!

Yeah, the start is pretty boring with only the palm muted strumming and the choir. But at 0:23 when the drums set in, then it becomes awesome. Only problem here is that the guitars are a tad bit too loud, they overpower the drums nearly completly (or is because my PC speakers are broken? I have no sound anymore on my left speaker :/ )

Anyway, playing is great as always, but the mixing seems not to be completly finished.

Sonofkirk responds:

Yeah, I'm with you, the beginning is boring but I like the rest, when I listen to this song, it reminds me some good memories of all the hours I spent recording it my shitty material ;). When I made this song, I didn't even know what "mixing" meant :P.

Thanks a lot for the review!

Funny

I think every piano player goes through a phase like this sometimes (and most definatly more than once ^^). Playing wrong notes over and over and then just slamming the keyboard out of frustration.
This also holds true for every other instrument, I guess.

The use of this piece for a flash is quite limited I guess, as it HAS to contain a pissed off piano player. Variations may only be possible in the setting. One setting was described by Corky below, another setting might be: A well known pianist gives a concert but totally fails and slams the piano out of frustration.

Yeah, Super Mario!

Yes, it fits there where you put it. Mario Theme would fit anywhere if it is played on a distorted guitar. I personally like kicking the distortion aaaaallll the way in and then playing the Mario Theme as fast as I can (which actually is not very fast at all -.-)

Anyway, the mario theme is not the only highlight of this song. The slow and heavy riff is just awesome and it creates a halloweenish atmosphere (which is not an easy thing to do, now that it is spring again ^^). Only the church organ sounds not that well and it is a bit too quiet compared to the rest of the song.

Sonofkirk responds:

I put that Super Mario in a lot of other compositions which are not on Newgrounds - those for my bands - and yeah it fits everywhere :D. As for the church organ, I made them with guitar pro and another suck-ish program, that's why it doesn't sound very good ^^.

Thanks for the reviews <3

Nice build up

Wow, pretty nice build up here. Starts off slow with that choir, then the guitar sets in and it slowly but surely becomes another one of sonofkirks kick-ass metal tracks! ;)

However, the ending doesn't work so well. It feels as if it is cut off. The difference between the ending and the beginning is just too big. And seeing how this is labeled as a loop, I guess I have to take a point away from that. :(

But I think this would work awesome as a prelude to another song (just like Blind Guardian's "Trial by the Archon" is a prelude to "Wizard's Crown").

Sonofkirk responds:

Yes, it doesn't loop very well and the transition is harsh but I'll work on it for sure. It's hard to make it loop well since NG audio player add a 1/10 of second in the end of the sound file ;).

I don't know what is Blind Guardian but I will check those two songs and see if I can get any inspiration from them. Thanks for the criticism dude, I appreciate your reviews a lot :).

Nice

The trumpet sounds really nice. It's an interesting effect you put on there.

The melody is simple but catchy. And I think it's impossible to put something more complex insuch a short amount of time, heh.

Also, the loop works pretty well. I don't know how it was before, but I read in an answer to a review that you fixed the loop. Well, it worked. ;)

Sonofkirk responds:

Yeah that was really difficult to make an interesting 5 seconds loop, I think the trumpet helps to make it a bit interesting :). Thanks a lot for the review again dude.

Wow...

My first thought: "Covering Death? What a disgrace!"

But now that I listened to it I changed my mind. This is FUCKING AWESOME! Guitars, drums and vocals are kick ass and nearly sound better than the original!

Now I can't wait to hear some of your own songs. I hope you do have other songs and share them here with us! :)

Jeffaro responds:

Heh..Thanks man.

But I really wouldn't go as far as saying that my mix is better than the original.I don't think that my guitar solos did the song justice..Hopefully Chuck wont mind XD.

Also..I never really planed on putting my original work on NG.I think I'm just going to do covers for now.

Thanks for the review dude!

Nice

The slow build up is done pretty nicely, but it sounds a bit too generic. The guitar was unexpected and made this song a lot better (even though FL guitars sound pretty awful).

Corky is right, the cymbal at the end doesn't really fit there. You should try to end this song in a different way. Maybe with a hold guitar note or with a good old fade out.

Thanks for the review! I'll consider this for future music.

Daft Punk-ish

Those robot voices really remind me of Daft Punk. Also, the funky intro seems to be heavily influenced by them.

Anyway, I like this song, it creates a happy atmosphere and sounds pretty unconventional. Sometimes it reminds me of some of the 90s dance tracks, the next second I recognize some 70s rock influence there (you know, those long-winded guitar and keyboard soli à la Deep Purple).

However, the main beat of the song stays almost the same nearly through the whole song. This gets boring after about 3 minutes.

GlueR responds:

Thanks for the review! You're right about the beat. Nothing does really change throughout the song, but you wouldn't have noticed it if everything else stayed the same throughout the song, as you would see in not so few dance tunes... ;-)
Anyways, I really should have programmed more drums into this, but at the time, I wasn't too proficient with writing realistic drum parts back then and to be totally honest, I didn't even have the patience to do it. You know, as a listener I'm not into beat oriented music, but I do appreciate some bands here and there, like Daft Punk, the Chemical Brothers etc, that put effort and artistic value into what they make, so if I'm influenced by anyone, it would be by them... And you're right about the rock part. But you didn't spot Vanessa Mae influence in the second part of the song... Hehe... This was really a blend of everything....
Cheers!

Great

Wow, this is really a great song. Everything fits very well together, from the intro to the very last tune. Great song writing!

Only downside is that the voice is a tad bit too quiet and has to compete against the other instruments.

Other than that, this track just blew me away!

{ Review Request Club }

GlueR responds:

Thanks for that! Well, you're right. The vocals are low in the mix, but that depends on your stylistic preferences. I've made songs that are pop, where the vocals sit well above anything else in the mix and others (like this one) that they sit together with the rest of the instruments. It depends on what your goal is for each song. This one isn't about showcasing vocal abilities, solos, too complex instrumentation etc. It's about the message. Everything is built around it and trying not to obstruct it. It's a bit less radio-friendly that way, but I didn't intend for it to be in the first place.

I'm glad you liked this! This is really one of the few songs that really mean a lot for me! Cheers!
