Great song

This song has a very "epic" sound to it, I can imagine this being used in many scenes. I think this piece would fit in a wide range from an intro to a movie, to a battle scene where the hero fights his way back to the end credits of a movie.
However, I think this song is much too good to be buried somewhere in the credits, so that's one possiblity less. ^^

Anyway, I like the build up of the song. It starts off very quiet. The melodies don't step up front in this early stage and we can hear a military rhythm being played on the drums.
Towards the end the melodies take more and more "room" it seems, without even changing the intensity in which they are played in. This sounds pretty good to me, but I think a small rise in volume for the melodies towards the end would sound even better.

Thanks for the feedback :D I'll go work on some crescendo.

Very simple, but repetitive

The song sounds pretty interesting, and it creates a nice "80s" atmosphere, but towards the end it gets too repetitive. The beats in this song just don't change too much, which gets a bit boring in the end.

I think you should try to put in some more effects and definetly some changes to the main beat, even if the song isn't so simplicistic anymore after you added more things to it.

its actually not very simple at all. this has ALOT of little beats variations going on. But you have to listen carefully. I agree that some parts MAY be a LITTLE to repetitive though..

Good song, interesting mix of genres

Hard to pigeonhole this into any genre. It's a very interesting mix of genres you created here. I think it's amazing how well those different styles work together.

As a guitar player I like the guitar in here the most, of course. But even if I didn't play the guitar myself, I'd still like the melodies the guitar plays. It somehow sounds very familiar, but I just can't say right now where I might have heard a similar melody before. Or maybe it's just the sound of the guitar that reminds me of some other song.

Anyway, this song is just amazing. Only thing is that the main beat gets a bit repetitive towards the end as it doesn't seem to change around too much during the song.

OH35 responds:

Thanks, mate! We wanted the beat to be as simplistic as possible in order to give the melodies more space. Regarding the melody of the guitar I really have no clue which melody should resemble, though, hopefully it's not that much similiar!!

Awesome

It's a pretty nice song. I like the beginning very much. Very calm, with a good atmosphere.

I also like the build up of the song. It starts off slow, then a slightly faster part is played, it's slow again and then the amazing last part sets in after only a short transmission.

The worst thing about this song is the sound of the guitar in the last part (if it is supposed to be a guitar, that is). I mean, overall the song sounds awesome, but the sound of that particular instrument destroys it a bit for me.

This is one of the first songs I've done where I payed attention to pacing, and only subtly until Lublub came up with the guitar part. And as for the sound of the guitar, it was FL Slayer. Recording an actual guitar was attempted, but issues forced us to edit Slayer as best we could. Hopefully it didn't ruin it too much for you :)

Thanks for the review, my good fellow.

French rap is nice

Yeah, I had french for 4 years in school, but I forgot almost everything... anyway, I know some other french rap songs and they all sound pretty nice. The language might be a bitch to learn, but at least it sounds good in hip hop. XD

I also like the background beat. It's simple but very effective. Especially the melodies stand out very much, and they just have that little something that makes you want to listen to the song again.

I'm a bit disappointed about the ending, though. It ends too abruptly so I was a bit surprised the song was already over there. Maybe you could add some more seconds to the end to finish this song in a better way.

Loki responds:

Yeah you'd need to understand the ending to enjoy it :P

It's just some random rambling pretty much and it's meant to surprise :)

I guess I'll translate it... :c

I like this

A pretty good song that even comes with some sort of story in the comments. I always like that.

The instruments sound all very nice and I like how they all go along so well together. Everything can be heard just fine without one instrument overpowering the other, or anything like that.

However, I didn't like how the hihat can only be heard on the right side, but not on the left. This doesn't sound too good in my opinion.

The transitions are done very nicely and very subtle. It almost feels natural how the song goes from one part to the other part, so you did a very nice job there.

Birdinator99 responds:

Sounds like the EQing worked for me!

Sorry about that hi hat, heh; I'll be sure to switch it up next time.

Thanks for the review!

Good song, but the vocals shoulb be more present

The atmosphere created by the instruments is pretty good. Actually quite relaxing (but I think I can relax to almost any tune ^^).

Anyway, I think you should try to concentrate more on the voices. After all, the song is called "voices in my head", so I think they should be more noticeable. But on the other hand you have to be careful not to overpower the music too much. It's a bit of a tightrope walk, but in my opinion it wouldn't hurt the song if the vocals would be more present in the song.

Thank you for your review. As I said in previous reviews, I will try this when I have a chance.

As always, thank you for taking the time to review.

Very good song

This song sounds very nice, even though the recording quality is quite low. I guess you recorded yourself playing this tune. I guess it's pretty hard to record a piano as it sounds very powerful and voluminous, which is very hard to catch with a mic.

Anyway, the track still transports a very dense atmosphere that feels very "waterlike" (I don't know how to describe it better... and since the song is called "Reflections in the water" I had pictures of lakes in my mind while listening to this).

Overall a very good track, but the relatively low recording quality takes away a bit of it's awesomeness.

Cimba responds:

I actually didn't record this. I don't play piano. I'll see if i can tweak the piano voice a bit.

Radiohead + Daft Punk = This song

I'm serious with the title. The intro reminds me a lot of some of Radioheads songs while the second half of the song the beat and the robotic voices remind me of Daft Punk.

This is a very good song with a very nice beat and some catchy melodies. I especially like the intro, as it offers a very unique beat. I also like how set back the kick is here. Usually I prefer stronger kicks, but this time the relatively "soft" kick works really well.
Especially when the melodies set in. I think a stronger kick would simply overpower the melodies, so I think you've done a good job mastering this song.

Only thing I didn't like too much was the outro. It is too abrupt in my opinion, but I apreciate that you didn't just let it fade out (fade outs are boring and overdone imo). But this outro doesn't work too well for me either... I think it would sound better if the melody would ring out.

KaoticAlchemist responds:

I agree with everyone... My outro sucked... XD
I honestly had no idea what to end it with and so just kinda threw that together... =P
And the drums I tried to boost the bass on, but when I took the EQ higher it started distorting and seriously effed my old speakers... Lol
And I'd like to know what being "Serious with the title" means... XD
Thanks for the review! ^_^

Okay

Well, for game music it's actually quite good and I think it fits very well into the C&C world, as the other tracks (at least in C&C 1, the only one I've actually played -.-) are very "mechanical" as well. So your track fits in there nicely.

While the song gets very repetitve after a while the repetitiveness wouldn't be such a problem while gameing. If you play a game you don't listen to the background music that closely, but instead you are looking for something that has a good atmosphere and that let's you dive deeper into the gaming world. And I think this track fulfills the job very nicely.

So overall, this isn't a track I would listen to on my MP3 player, but I can imagine listening to this while playing C&C.
