Spacey

This song has a great and spacey atmosphere. It almost feels as if I'm sitting in some kind of spaceship flying through space. And sometimes the atmosphere is more like I'm sitting on the earth, watching the stars and wishing I would sit in a spaceship flying through space. XD

Anyway, I like the melodies in this song pretty much. They are catchy and even after listening to the song three times they still sound unique and fresh.
Also, the transitions between the slower and the faster parts is done pretty good. Those changes in speed also prevent the song from getting too repititve.

Only the outro isn't done that nicely. The song pretty much just ends there. I think a fade out while the main melody is playing would sound better. But on the other hand, fade outs are overdone, so it might be better to just leave the outro as it is now. ^^

Yeah, I am XOnstantly tipping between doing fade outs averagely and doing abrupt endings poorly.
Someday I'll get better at one or the other, and when I do I'll start concluding my songs with the utmost skill! Until then, I appreciate the feedback, I'll practice that from now on.

Good

I like the vocal samples you used throughout the song. They are a very nice addition and they fit pretty well into the song. Also otherwise the song might be a bit boring, as there seems to be nothing that stands out too much.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think this song is bad, it just seems to keep itself in the background a little bit too much for my liking.
Also one of the instruments you used sounds a bit strange (that one that starts at 0:29). To me it somehow sounds a bit "carribean" and it destroys a bit the nice extra terrestrian atmosphere you manage to create with the other sounds.

Very nice

While listening to this I thought I was listening to some Deep Purple or Led Zepplin stuff, because the quality and the song is so awsome. This has to be among the top tracks for quality, it's just amazing.

Anyway, the song itself is amazing as well. Even though it's over 5 minutes long and it doesn't contain any vocals it never gets boring listening to it.
The build up may be a bit slow, though. The volume is turned down all the way and only rises very slowly. It takes over a minute before the song "really" starts (ie we can hear the music at full volume).
But we get a very nice reward for the long wait. The song that follows is just great. The solo guitar plays some very nice stuff here.

However, the drums could be worked out a bit better. The drums play only one riff during the beginning, a faster riff in the middle part and a mid tempo riff during the end part which sounds similar to the first riff. This can get repititve towards the end.

In my opinion it sounds better if every instrument gets a little "solo part" as this takes away from the repititveness of a single instruments.

Thanks Haggard! Yeah, thinking critically about my song, I think I have the same opinion as you do. About the solo for each instrument... yeah, that's an interesting idea for a new song. Challenging, surely. I'm going to wait for christmas or something for a new pc. This one is almost 5 years old. 512 ram... it's hard to work with that, i can tell you that.

Ambient DNB?

Sounds very interesting. Different from what I expected when I saw the genre.

I like the slow intro, it sets a good atmosphere and also indicates in which direction the song is going.

The transition at 0:55 to a faster drumbeat sounds a bit off at first, but after a few seconds one can make out the pattern behind the drums at it sounds quite good.

Maybe the drums should be a bit louder. They are so far in the background that it is sometimes almost hard to hear them behind the melody. I know this is supposed to be ambient D'n'B, so I guess the melody should be the most prominent thing, but I think the drums could still be a bit louder without ruining the song.

Good

Isn't the band just called "Sunn O)))"? ;)

Anyway, this creates a really creepy atmosphere and the guitar in the background builds a very nice contrast to this with the calm (yet somehow creepy) melody it plays.

I also like how you slowly transit from the demonish intro to a pretty calm and hopefull ambiente, where we can only hear the guitar and some strings in the background.

The transition back to the demoic atmosphere isn't done so good, in my opinion, it happens too quickly. But on the other hand the song may have been too dragged out if you did this as slow and subtle as you did with the transition from "demonic" to "almost happy".

Also, in the beginning there are some statics noticable. I guess that's because some of the effects are too deep and bassy.

I can work some more on the transition at the end when i re-record this song, maybe make it fade in together with the guitar.

Sadly, the static is impossible to avoid, i can limit it, but not get rid of it all together.

Calm

Yeah, the title says it all. XD

This is indeed a very calm submission, but I like it. Sometimes you just need someting to calm down and this song certainly helps.

I like that you put so many different things in the background. I nearly missed half of those because I was busy doing other things. But then I read your comments and listened to the song again, and boy, those background noises make the song even more interesting.

However, that effect you use at around 6:57 doesn't really fit there in my opinion. It kind of disturbs the relaxing atmosphere, almost turning it into some kind of "David Lynch"-like movie score.

Also it's too bad the sound quality is a bit low. It all sounds kind of muffled, but I guess that's because your ways of recording the music are kind of kimited.

That's part of the challenge of making ambinet/mood spesific music, if you're not in the mood to be calm, you're just not gonna pay attention to the music, and I really appreciate you taking the time to really listen to my music :)

I must agree with you on the 6:57 sound affect, it was a random loop i found on the internet a long long time ago, back in those days I was annoyed by the restraints i had, so i always tried to find other elements to put in my music, and without thinking to much about how it would fit the rest of the song, i just slapped in on there.

Sounds different than the first version...

Of course, the melodies are the same, the bell at the intro... but with the added stuff the atmosphere is quite different.

It's not bad, but I find it hard to compare it to the previous version now. This second take still creates a dark and creepy atmosphere, but now it doesn't sound so... hopeless anymore. It sounds more "encouragin" now. As if the music wasn't there to creep out the player but to help him not to give up.

So, I can't say if this version sounds better than the old one. But it is without doubt different. :)

Stupid audacity glitching up

Audacity ruined the guitar, stupid program!
But yeah, I can see why you didn't want to record this all again. Also, it kind of works with this guitar sound as well. Sounds strange at first but after some time it really grew on me.

It would be nice if there where some vocals added to this as some parts sound a bit boring without them. It's just like that the verses are meant to have vocals, so the other instruments are taken back a bit so the singer can be heard better.

But anyway, this is a nice song, even without vocals. I also checked out the link you gave in the comments and I think this is a pretty good cover.

Nice bass

I wanted to complain about the statics in the song, but then I read that it was meant to be that way.... XD

Anyway, the bass is very nice and deep and I like it pretty much. The melodies could have been worked out a bit better though, sometimes it's hard to hear them because of the loud bass.

I really wanted to make a bad ass base kick in this song, maybe a bit too much then. :P I suppose you could turn down the bass on your volume settings.
I personally like the loud bass. :)

Okay, but still room for improvement

The intro with the vocals is pretty nice, even though I was expecting something more powerful after the initial question, but what follows after is okay as well.

The melody sounds pretty nice, but I think the backing track can use some more work. Harder kicks would sound good in my opinion.

Also, the track seems to end at a very odd time. It sounds as if the melody needs to play just a tad bit longer before the loop starts over. Right now it sounds a bit cut off.
