Good

I think this would work really well in a strategy game, like Command & Conquer (you know, those kind of futuristic strategy games). The song isn't too distracting and it gives the player something nice to listen to while he is playing the game.

You have some very good melodies in this song, I especially like the one we can hear towards the end of the song (at around the 3 minute mark). It is catchy and really driving, "forcing" the player to play faster and do something or else his opponent will just crush him.

lol, that is an awesome take on the song, i never thought of it that way! thanks so much haggard for the review it is always appreciated :D

Guitars don't sound too good

This is a really nice attempt, but as a metal fan and guitar player myself I really hate the guitar sound. It's just too artificial. Also, there is some noise in the background when the guitar plays the main riff that is really annoying (it can be heard at 0:27 and other occasions throughout the song). I guess it's from the drums, but it really doesn't sound that good.

Also, I was expecting some thrash metal after the intro. I mean, some hughe storm is going on, then "1, 2, 3, 4" on the hi-hat... and then I was just expecting some more brutal music. I don't know, maybe because bands that play that kind of stuff like to count in their songs with four hits on the hi-hat. ^^

Anyway, enough criticism, now to the good things: Wow, this is your first attempt? It's a quite good attempt, even though I wrote two long paragraphs of what I don't like right at the beginning. The song is well structured and even contains a nice solo plus the main riff sounds very catchy.
Also, the drums play some really good stuff.

The outro needs some more work, I think. The song kind of just ends there. Maybe end it with a short drum solo, those kind of outros work most of the time pretty well. :)

Step responds:

Thanks for the review! It's true about those gutars. I haven't heard one electric guitar sample which sounds even close to an electric guitar. Probably the annoying sound you were hearing was one of my guitar samples, lol :P. Either that or it was a wind sound effect or something, since I tried using loads of weather sound effects around the song. I see what you mean by the stuff after the intro, now that I'm hearing it again it does skip from loud to soft too suddenly. Anyway, thanks for the compliments, and about the outro... well, I may try a drum solo, but it's not going to turn out that well probably because I'm not that amazing at percussion. Thanks again for the review :D.

Good song

I don't think I've ever listened to the original, but this doesn't reall matter too much. This is a very nice sounding song. I like the trumpet very much as there aren't too many songs in the audio portal that make use of this instrument.

Maybe the background beat is a bit too repititve, but I don't think listeners will pay too much attention to that, as the background beat just stays where it belongs to, in the background. So, the melodies do the main work for this song and they are very diversified, so the song doesn't get repititve too fast.

Echo responds:

tks man. I always wanted to put a trumpet in somewher, who knew it'd be in a dance song :)

Thanks for the detail you put in, once i'm gonna continue work on the revised version, keeping your review in mind. thanks ;)

Btw, diversified isn't exactly a word lol...

Very good

Wow you have some very nice melodies in this song. They are all very catchy and once they stop I think: "Hey, why doesn't this melody continue to play? But wait, what's that? The meldoy that plays right now is awesome, too."
And it's like that the throughout the whole song, so I nearly forgot to pay attention to the background beat as well... ^^

The instruments in the background set a nice basis for the melodies, they accentuate them pretty well. Plus the background beats can only be heard in the background, just like they are supposed to be. No overpowering of beat and melodies here, everything can be heard just fine. Nice work in the mixing departement! :)

:D thanks, lol i deleted that other submission. It was an unfinished projet i forgot to delete :D Peaceout. Oh kodos for the mixing praise :D Peaceout!

Catchy melody

I can really imagine hearing this in a game. It would set the right atmosphere for the scene you described in the author comments, plus it isn't too distracting, which is always a big plus for game music.

Too bad that the song gets a bit repititive towards the end, but I guess you wouldn't really notice that when you are playing a game and concentrate on other things.

PuffballsUnited responds:

Yeah, I guess the melody does repeat a bit at the end, but it's getting close to the machine winding down so I wanted it to feel more intense.

Good

The intro is pretty nice. Just like an old record that creaks and crackles. I like how the melody speeds up a bit just before the song starts.

The melodies in the song are pretty nice and very catchy. It's a very varied song and I like that you kinda used the intro again later in the song, in between the two parts and later in the outro.

Too bad that there's such a long silence at the end.

SessileNomad responds:

lol i almost tried to cut the silence at the end, but i didnt think anyone would care, i guess i was wrong

other than that though, im glad you liked the track

thanks for reviewing dude

peace out

Very experimental

There are some very good effects in there, good work.

The song is pretty relaxing on the one hand. But on the other hand with all those effects going on it gets pretty creepy, especially towards the end.

It's a bit hard to review this song, as I like to come up with some small stories for ambient songs. But here, no story comes to my mind.
Maybe it's again a small journy, but this time not of a real person but instead of his soul. It gets "dragged out" of the body in the intro and goes on a long and pretty eventful journy.
At first it is happy to be rid of the body, the song is pretty relaxing (at around the 2 minute mark).

But more and more sinister forces try to get a hold of the soul and it tries to find it's way back into the body, but doesn't quite make it...

Thank you :)
That's a very interesting way of interpreting the song, never really thought of any meaning to this song, as i mostly just experimented with the effects, but it's cool that some "meaning" can still be found.

Thanks for review :)

Nice again

I liked the first one a bit better as the melody there was catchier, but this too is a great song.

This could continue my little story I was making up in the first review. Either the whole group or just one single person goes on and lives in the forest. Either by accident or out of free will. We can now see him how he just enjoys time. Maybe he's fishing or taking a sunbath on a small clearance.

Nothing disturbs this peace, the last human being he saw years ago, he now became part of the forest, part of the nature.

Thanks :)

If it ever comes to making a music video, i'll defineatly use your little story, it fits perfectly :)

Very nice

This song needs a better mic. It's a real pity that the sound is so muffled as the actual song is just awesome.

When it starts, it feels as if I (or somebody, maybe even a whole group) decides to go hiking. Everybody is in a good mood, supplies are plenty, weather is good.

Then the group/the single person decides to make a detour to the nearest forest. As they venture farther and farther into the forst, all the noise, pollution and problems of the world is left behind and they soak up the mysterious atmosphere...

From there I really don't know how the story goes on. Maybe they go on living in the forest as a hermit? :D

Anyway, great song, it just needs a better sound quality.

Better mic is coming up :)

Good

I was a bit sceptic at first. "Ain't no sunshine" by Bill Withers is one of my favorite songs and I it's not easy to do a cover of it that really satisfies me. But you succeeded with your attempt. :)

Some notes are a bit off, though. You sing some words a bit deeper, where it in my opinion doesn't really fit. For example the word "away" at 0:12. It would have sounded better if you sung that a little higher as well.

Anyway, the rest of the song is just as amazing as the original. You managed to put as much feelings in your voice as Bill Withers did when he sung it. Good work!

Any comparison to Bill Withers makes me blush :) Thanks man!
