Good track

The voice acting here is pretty good, but the Joker is too far away from the mic, so he's pretty hard to understand.

However, I liked the impression you gave on the joker. I don't know how close you are to Ledger's joker as I haven't seen the movie (and even if I had I couldn't judge it, as movies here are dubbed). But I like the deranged sound you gave your voice, it really gave me the creeps.

I also liked the addition of the second character, even though we can only hear him breathing most of the time. But it adds a whole new dimension to this track, it creates some images in my mind that wouldn't have been there if the second character hadn't been present in this submission.

Very good song

This song sounds very nice, even though the recording quality is quite low. I guess you recorded yourself playing this tune. I guess it's pretty hard to record a piano as it sounds very powerful and voluminous, which is very hard to catch with a mic.

Anyway, the track still transports a very dense atmosphere that feels very "waterlike" (I don't know how to describe it better... and since the song is called "Reflections in the water" I had pictures of lakes in my mind while listening to this).

Overall a very good track, but the relatively low recording quality takes away a bit of it's awesomeness.

Cimba responds:

I actually didn't record this. I don't play piano. I'll see if i can tweak the piano voice a bit.

Good track

A very nice piece of music. At first I found it very relaxing (the intro is quite slow and soft and that feels very relaxing), but after a while the dystopian feeling you described in the comments came through. It isn't so relaxing anymore now, but more like... hopeless. As if someone resigned and hasn't the will nor the strength to continue fighting.

However, I think the glockenspiel (or the instrument that sounds like one) is a tad bit too loud. The melody it plays is just too sharp sounding for me.

Radiohead + Daft Punk = This song

I'm serious with the title. The intro reminds me a lot of some of Radioheads songs while the second half of the song the beat and the robotic voices remind me of Daft Punk.

This is a very good song with a very nice beat and some catchy melodies. I especially like the intro, as it offers a very unique beat. I also like how set back the kick is here. Usually I prefer stronger kicks, but this time the relatively "soft" kick works really well.
Especially when the melodies set in. I think a stronger kick would simply overpower the melodies, so I think you've done a good job mastering this song.

Only thing I didn't like too much was the outro. It is too abrupt in my opinion, but I apreciate that you didn't just let it fade out (fade outs are boring and overdone imo). But this outro doesn't work too well for me either... I think it would sound better if the melody would ring out.

I agree with everyone... My outro sucked... XD
I honestly had no idea what to end it with and so just kinda threw that together... =P
And the drums I tried to boost the bass on, but when I took the EQ higher it started distorting and seriously effed my old speakers... Lol
And I'd like to know what being "Serious with the title" means... XD
Thanks for the review! ^_^

Okay

Well, for game music it's actually quite good and I think it fits very well into the C&C world, as the other tracks (at least in C&C 1, the only one I've actually played -.-) are very "mechanical" as well. So your track fits in there nicely.

While the song gets very repetitve after a while the repetitiveness wouldn't be such a problem while gameing. If you play a game you don't listen to the background music that closely, but instead you are looking for something that has a good atmosphere and that let's you dive deeper into the gaming world. And I think this track fulfills the job very nicely.

So overall, this isn't a track I would listen to on my MP3 player, but I can imagine listening to this while playing C&C.

Thank you, you are good as always)))

Good start

It's hard to come up with anything new regarding the Mortal Kombat theme music, but I like your shot at it. You managed to add a few things that make this track original, for example the little voice samples or the way you designed the outro.

However, I think the drums - especially the ones we can hear in the intro - don't fit too well into the song. They seem to be a little off beat.

Overall it's a good try for your first real track, so please do not feel discouraged by the "low" score (hey, a 7 is still a high score in my opinion ;) ), but I had to take a point away for originality (as I've said, there are tons and tons of MK-remixes out there) plus I didn't like the intro too much.
But anyway, still a good start and I'm looking forward to hear more tracks from you in the future. ;)

thanks, i don't think 7 is a low score either, i agree that there are tons and tons of MK remixes, but i couldn't resist :P

Nice atmosphere

This creates a very nice atmosphere and I think it would be a very nice sound to have on a pause screen (even though I prefer the music to stop when the game is stopped ^^).

Anyway, I like how the loop is so subtle at times. During the middle only the beat is very noticeable, the other melodies and beats are very far in the background so that it might be possible that some people might not even notice that there is something else than just the main beat. I really like that.

Due to it's shortness the loop gets repetitive very fast. But that doesn't matter too much if this is only used for a pause screen, as the player might just pause the game for a few seconds, so he wouldn't even hear the full loop anyway (which, on the other hand, would be quite a pity).

Sounds good

I think this is a very good song. I like the melodies in here, they get stuck in the head very easily and they sound good, which is always a big plus. :D

I also like the beat. It sounds as if every other beat is played backwards, which creates a very interesting effect. It somehow seems as if the song "stands still" (this is also emphazised by the other backward sounding elements in the song), but yet it progresses with every second it plays... it's a bit hard to explain, but it creates a very interesting duality.

However, the outro sounds a bit bland right now with only the main beat playing.
Maybe a small fade would sound better... or some added melodies that keep ringing in the background.

Thanks for the review! Very much appreciated.

Again a very nice song

I wonder how you can always can come up with such nice compositions. Again this piece sounds very soft and tender and it creates a very nice atmosphere.

Also the background melody sometimes reminds me a bit of the moonlight sonata, one of my favorite classical pieces. Maybe that's why I instantly loved this song. :)

Maybe the recording of the song could be a tad bit louder, but that's about the only negative thing I can point out this time.

Calamaistr responds:

About the volume, i decided that im not going to join in the volume war going on in music land (people trying to get more clear and louder voice with every new composition.) Ive started to purposely lower the master volume of the piano before i even start to put down the notes so its much softer. I personally cannot stand sharp tone piano's like most people use in the present day (synth).

Its my personal preferrence tbh.

How i come up with compositions, well.. it just comes to me naturally when i am building the track, before hand i do have a melody in my head but most of the atmosphere (background and emotion or secondary keys) come to me as im composing. I cant think of anything else than that its my experience in the classical and lounge-jazz style and the stubborn mindset to go beyond the conventional, everytime i get to a point where a certain melodical or chord progression is due i try for something different. Ill still be on track of the original idea (theme).
This exact thing can be heard in the capital katlean remix where i later play much more joyfull melody in the same style as the original theme, stuff like that.

Hope you like me being elaborate, feel free to pm me (going for everyone) if you have further questions.

Greets and thanks :)

Good song

Even though this song offers mostly beats and little to no melodies I like it very much. It's amazing how all the different beats work together and add up to a very unique "listening experience".

However, I think the song would be even better if the main beat was a tad bit bassier.
