Minimalistic

A very minimalstic song, but I like it. The bass is pretty amazing, it adds a very special note to the main beat.

The melodies are nice, even though they aren't too complex.

However, the song gets a bit repetitive towards the end, but I guess that's the problem with all minimalstic songs. ^^

Thanks.
Yeah, I'm pretty new to making music so it can't really be too complicated.

Nice build up

This song sounds very good. I like the build up from the intro to the climax of the song. It gets louder and louder every second. At first we can only make out some sounds, then the music sets in, but the volume still rises. When the melody sets in, the song becomes really epic.

I think you've done a great job mastering the song. Even though the melody is very loud compared to the other instruments we still can make out the drums and background melodies.

I also like that you had a "build down" in the song as well. It doesn't suddendly stop after the climax, but continues to play for about a minute before it ends.

Nice song

The intro sounds a bit like if there was a bagpipe playing, but maybe I just misheard that (bagpipes are one of my favorite instruments, so maybe I just WANT to hear a bagpipe there ^^).

Anyway, the song reminds me a bit of the score to the movie Requiem for a Dream. Maybe it's the melody or the style in which the melody is played.

Towards the end the song gets a bit repetitive, but overall it's very nice to listen to this.

Very subtle

Again a very good loop. I like the "china town" atmosphere you create with the melodies here, it sounds nice.

I also like the subtleness of the song. I had this playing in the background for quite a while now and I'm not tired of listening to it. Sometimes I didn't even realize that the song was still playing.
While this may not sound like a great compliment it is indeed meant to be taken as a compliment. ;) I wasn't really aware that the song was playing but at the same time my subconscious mind still realized there was something nice to listen to, so I felt very relaxed. ^^

Thats always the 'best compliment :)

Good song

A very well composed song. It starts off very interesting with the intro already. I think I haven't heard anything like this on NG before, so kudos to you.

But the song isn't only good in the intro but in the rest of the song as well. The transitions between the single parts are quite good and come very "natural". It isn't too subtle sometimes, but it isn't like I'm all like "wait what? Am I still listening to the same song?"

I also like the melodies in this song. They are very set back, but that's what makes them sound so good in my opinion. They don't try to compete with the beat, but they are there and they find a way to draw attention to themselvs.

Also, what's your style? I don't think you shouldn't look for a style, just create your own. :-)

my style is everything lol.

Relaxing

I don't know if your intention was to create a relaxing song, but to me this song was very relaxing. Mainly because of the slow background melodies. They create a very nice atmosphere that sounds a bit spacey and, well... relaxing.

The fast beat is set back very nicely and it supports the melodies very well. It's easy to overpower slow melodies with the beat, but you've done a good job mastering this song. Nice work!

thanks

good to know i mixed fast and slow well

A bit hectic from time to time

This song sounds a bit too hectic from time to time. The intro is quite nice with the deep bass sound here. Also the melody that comes in after a few seconds sounds good as well, up to this point everything sounds fine.

But after about 50 seconds it all sounds a bit weird and hectic. Maybe you have to master the song here a bit better. It seems to me as if every sound that is playing there at this time of the song trying to compete with every other sound.

At first I wasn't too happy with the part that starts at about 1:11 as well, but after listening to it a second time I like it a lot better than before. This part gets the adrenaline pumping, so it would be good to hear this during a boss battle.

Overall, the song sounds nice. You have a good mix of fast, adrenaline pumping and slower parts where the listener can catch some breath.

Could be a bit faster

The intro is quite nice with the kinda spacey background melodies. However, it developes a bit too slow for my liking. I think you should cut down on the intro a bit and let the main beat start sooner.

Speaking of the main beat, I think this could be a bit faster as well. I think the song would sound great with a faster beat.

Also, there isn't happening too much else in the song. Sure, you had some various parts which is always a good thing and kept the song from getting too repetitive. But some additional melodies, especialy in the second half of the song would make this song better, in my opinion.

Overall the song is nice as it is now, but there's still some room left for improvements.

Thank you for your review. I'll see what I can do.

First half is great, second half is a bit lacking

Yeah, I'm complaining on a very high level here. The first half of the song sounds awesome and I like the mix between beat and melodies here. Sounds great.

The second half of the song loses a bit of the awesomeness and leaves me wishing for more.
But on the other hand, the song is quite short, so I think if you have the patience to expand the song a bit then the middle part could be used to let the listener catch some breath and then knock him out with an as awesome as the first part third part (if that makes any sense, lol).

Step responds:

Hehe, thanks for the review, Haggard! I've had other people complaining that the second half isn't as action-packed and awesome as the first, it's true. I've also had people complain that the song needs more quiet parts, so I have a lot to do xD. Maybe I'll add a slower part in the middle with congas and bongoes playing, to maybe portray some 'Jungle' feel, perhaps making the listener think more of snakes that way. Then I'll add some powerful buildup after what I have now, and add that 'as awesome as the first part third part', knocking out the listener with the song's deadly venom >:3. Anyway, thanks for the review!

Good ambient

A very good ambient song, which sets a good mood for war type strategy games.

I like how it slowly picks up it's pace. It starts off very quiet. Militaristic, but calm. But the longer the song plays the more nad more intense becomes the atmosphere. This is done very nicely.

Only the last few seconds should be cut off in my opinion. After the song reached it's climax there are only a few seconds of silence with a few drum beats, they don't add too much to the song in my opinion.
