Nice reel

A pretty good reel. But the problem is that most of this is out of context and without voice acting. I understand that those are unfinished or unused animations, so of course they look a bit... well, unfinished. ^^

But it would still be great to see some background information on the things you present here. Maybe you could add a menu where the viewer can select the different flash snippets and you can write down some background information on what the viewer is about to see.

the ones with VA are mostly finished segments (words of wisdom: Jman, and QOTSA can both be found finished in my flash page), and it includes more collaboration bits.

and yeah, i could definitely tell viewers where the snippets came from, but it would make the flash seem a bit too long/cumbersome for a simple show reel with some of my better clips from 2009-now.

idk, man.

anyway, thanks for 7 #6!!!

OMG!

Oh my god, how could I forget this awesome thread? I stumbled across it every now and then and here it finally is! Tanks on Rampage!

Since I don't know anything about action script or how difficult it is to program in it (I know some other programming languages, though) I cannot judge how difficult it was to actually pull this off, but I surely can appreciate the fact you proved that a flash CAN be done with only using action script (there's also a flash game that doesn't use action script at all, it's called NSG014: ASFree if you want to look it up).

I really liked that you put in the name of the tank driver, it gave me a good laugh! :)

Kwing responds:

You're very welcome. This was more tedious than it was difficult to set up the animation, but it still was a lot of work! Basically one variable increases as the movie goes on, and when it reaches a certain amount of time into the animation, it triggers the next sequence.

Good movie

Usually I don't watch stick movies, since I think everything that can be done with sticks already has been done. But since this was requested in the RRC I gave it a try. And I must say, I am impressed by this flash.

Ok, nameless stick figures fighting each other sure has been done a bilion times before, but still your movie stands out from the huge crowd. The animations are very fluid and you also added some nice details here, like one of the red guys (the one that starts on the left side of the screen) stepping backwards a bit when he lands after his summersault for example. This looks pretty good and gives this flash that little "extra touch".

The music is pretty good as well, it fits nice to the fighting scenes.
The end was very sudden. The last guy just standing there and a little "Fin" popping up at the very bottom right corner, while the music still goes on. You should try to find a better ending. Maybe fading out the music and the whole screen slowly and display a "Replay"-Button.

Thanks for the review! I actually got Terkoiz to give me some feedback on this, and he said the biggest problems were the lack of dynamics, angles, and a V-Cam.

Funny

Oh wow, I did understand almost everything, without subtitles. Since english is a foreign language for me and I usually have some trouble understanding slangs and accents this is quite impressive, haha.

Aynway, the flash was quite funny. I never will be able to play Street Fighter again without thinking of this movie. And I propably will never select Dhalism again, just so I can see his select icon flying around and headbutting Ryu.

Even though the graphics are meant to look crappy I think they still could've used some more work. Most of the time the characters wheren't correctly coloured, they still had some "white spots" left. Intentional or not, I didn't like it too much.

Also, the voice could've been a tad bit louder, this way it would be even better to understand. Also also don't use "so den" so often next time (just like I shouldn't use the word "also" so often ^^).

DahDoctow responds:

alright, thanks for your response!

I never even noticed until now how much I said "So den", I need to come up with a new word hahaha.

Good

I think it's a bit strage that a school kid is interrogated by two detectives only because of a missing rabbit.

Anyway, I noticed a slightly different font in the speech bubbles (or did the speech bubbles always had that font? It's quite some time since I read the last episode, heh), which is a lot better to read.

I also like the "subliminal messages" you include in the background, like the question marks when one detective asks a question or the "fucking lies" when Maple lies.

Celx-Requin responds:

The rabbit was endangered, and lent to the school by a zoo...
Nope the font is the same as it's always been, although I've made the speech bubbles a little larger.

I'm working on the new one today, so hopefully the next one will get done in a few days!

Thanks,

Nice flash

Oh, good to see you are back. I was missing you in the RRC. ^^

Anyway, this is a very nice flash. Maybe not the cleanest and neatest graphics out there, but they serve their purpose. It's easy to tell what's going on on the screen and this is still the most important thing, right?

I also liked the music. Some kind of elevator music, but it really fits the flash.
What I honestly didn't understand was the mooing we could hear during the flash. Was it the main character mooing out of boredom? Or was it some cow friends outside mooing?

Anyway, the ending is pretty good. Boobs. That's what make the world go round. :)

Imacow responds:

It was supposed to be cow porn :P

...

The technique of the text inside the pictures (like "funny bird" or "extinguish the flame") is very interesting and it adds a lot to the artwork.
It's still a bit hard to get used to the pink colouring scheme, but after a few panels I can appreciate all the details you worked in here.

Can't wait for the next episode to come out!

Good intro

This intro looks pretty good and it also leaves some room for small changes (like adding some stuff here and there for special holidays or something). Also, the intro isn't too long. I always find it boring if I have to sit through an long-ass intro that isn't skipable just to watch a short movie that isn't barely longer than the intro.

However, as others already pointed out. The intro needs to be compressed a lot more. The filesize is 4MB now and it's only the intro here. That doesn't leave that much space for the acutal flash, considering the filesize limit of 10MB per flash. ;)

Funny

Negative aspects first: 15MB, I was hoping for something longer here. Good thing that I got VDSL installed at my home two months ago. With my old connection this flash would've taken forever to load.

Ranting done, on with the actual review:
I don't know what it is, but I really like the graphics here. Sure, they may look "childish" in some way, but at least I haven't seen any flash before that made use of this crayon-like graphics. So you get some points for originality here. ;)

The story is very fast paced, but at least you don't drag the flash along endlessly. You come straight to the point, which I really like (may sound like I'm contradicting myself here with my previous rant. But I was only ranting about the file size, not about the length of the flash).

I think the animations should be a lot smoother. You have some very good animations in this flash, like when the witch pours the liquid, but sometimes you only have still frames, which destroys the flow of the flash a bit.

Overall I give you 8 stars because I found this flash highly entertaining and I want to encourage you to produce more episodes in the future. :)

ToonCastleTV responds:

lol thanks I apreciate it. I'm well aware that animation could have been smoother but it works well enough to visualize at least. This was only made for school and I am working on flash based projects now! but they will still continue to be dope ;)
