Good atmosphere

This song creates a very good atmosphere and I think it can be used in many different scenarios. Either the one SCTE3 suggested in his review (the child's movie) or maybe in a movie with pirates, or even a documentation about the Yellowstone Park. As I've said, I think this can be used in many different scenarios.

I like the composition very much and I like the instruments you used. Every instrument has a clear purpose. Some are very much in the front, acting as "lead instruments", others can be heard in the background. But every instrument can be clearly heard, which is a very good thing. Sometimes instruments are drowned out by other, much more powerful instruments. But here even the quite tingle of the chimes can be heard.

Good work!

Hmm, never considered it in a pirate movie before, but it does have that kind of structure. I'm glad you think its versatile, especially since my only goal in this composition was to capture pure joy and happiness.

I had put a lot of effort into mixing this song as well as I could, and one of the main drivers for this song is for each instrument and melody to play an essential part. So I'm glad I managed to capture that.

Thanks for the review, I'm extremely glad you and the other guys liked it.

This song is mixed very well. Most metal songs on newgrounds have problems with the mixing, since it's very hard to record the instruments in a good way so they don't sound like shit in the end.

I think the drums could be and should be a bit faster, especially at the part after the nice intro, where the whole song slows down (0:43). In my opinion the song should pick up in tempo there instead of slowing down. ;)

Anyway, the vocals are really good as well. Most people sound like they are trying too hard when they try to growl, but the singer here sounds like he talks like this in his normal voice as well, lol.

Overall a very good song, should be a bit longer, though.

Good voice

You have a very nice reading voice and this time you also took the time to pronounce the words very clearly. This extra effort really pays off. You managed to create a very good atmosphere with your voice alone. Even though I know the story, I sat before my laptop, listening to your story telling.

However, just lke SeeD pointed out, there are a few noticeable pauses. I guess this is because you recorded this story in parts, which is only natural. It makes it alot easier to correct mistakes (nothing more annoying if you have a slip of tounge on the last few words and have to record huge parts again because there's no way of editing it in a satisfying way).
But the few seconds where we can hear nothing, not even the surrounding sounds, destroy the flow of the story.

Anyway, back to the voice acting. I think you just found the right pace to read this story. Slowly, but very fluently, without any unnecessary pauses (except for the pauses mentioned in the paragraph above) and even though you read this long text very quietly, it never gets boring to listen to your reading.

Perhaps if I made the pauses slightly shorter, it would sound better. I'm glad that you enjoyed the piece - there's hope for me yet :D

Great bass, vocals get very repetitive

Wow, very intense drums here. The deep bass is really amazing and the glitched drum parts fit very well to it.

The vocals destroy the song a bit, imo. On the one hand it's nice to have some vocal samples in a song, but here it doesn't fit too well. Also, after about one minute, the "this is our government" gets really old. Later on the song you mess around with the vocals up to the point where it gets really annoying.
I think you should cut down on the samples a bit and concentrate on the amazing drums more instead.

Dj-GST responds:

Thanks.

The vocals say "Brothas & Sistas", which is why the track is named as such. I'll turn them down a bit, and vocode them, but I'm not gonna cut them down.

Thanks for the review.

Funny

Oh yes, I remember the original l version and even left a review for it some time ago,

I think the redux version with the added music is a lot better. I don't want to say the original was bad, I just like this version better.
The music adds some nice dramatic atmosphere to this piece that was somehow missing in the first version you uploaded.

Also, the text is still funny. "Why so hungry, son?"

Nice song

This song is pretty cool, it made me snap my fingers along to the beat. The song also creates a very happy atmosphere. It put me in a good mood.

The ending is a bit cut off, though. Propably an error that occured during the uploading process, but it still prevents me from giving this song a 10. :(

I know, you're the first person to notice! It's actually a lag that occures during the conversion each time I use the converter I used.

Glad you enjoyed the song!

Strange

This sure sounds strange. And by "sound" I mean the actual "sound" that cornet/trumpet makes, not the playing itself.

I'm not very experienced with trumpets, but I guess it's not too easy to get a good tone out of it, so as far as I can tell, you have some experience playing the trumpet.

So, I don't know what you did to make it sound like this, but - and I'm just being honest here - it sounds terrible.
Maybe it's one of the filters you used (I think I can hear a "chorus" filter there? I sometimes use it for my guitar and it creates a similar "panning"), maybe it's the way you recorded it.

I would like to hear the unedited recording of this, even if there are background noises. I think a clear, unfiltered trumpet sound would be much better in this case.
