Starts off really slow

Now, this one starts off really slow and I was wondering why everyone was giving out such high scores. Then the flash slowly speed up a bit and the punchline really caught me by surprise. It was a pretty funny punchline as well.

The easter egg is all right and it's a "nice little extra", heh.

Still I think the drawing sequences could be sped up a bit. Right now there's no reason why I should this again. I would to have sit through the long winded drawing sequences again for the (enjoyable) punchline again.

I agree, it starts very slow, but I didn't know a way to "fix" it, I thought of maybe writing some notes in the beginning, before he starts drawing... I already sped up the drawing sequences from 24fps to 44 fps :P But yeah, it's kinda slow, especially in the beginning...

Thanks! :)

Promising start

The start was very promising. A few lines coming into the screen first forming a man, then a mask and then a face... it all morphed very smoothly.
But the longer the flash played the more the quality of the morphing and drawing decreased. Don't get me wrong, even towards the end the quality was above average, it's just that it started so nicely that the end kind of feels like a let down.

I can't put my finger on it where exactly it started to decline, but I noticed that the lines didn't flow so well anymore and that you often made use of simply erasing the lines.
After watching this flash again I realized that you erase lines from the very beginning, but in the beginning it isn't so noticable as there's other stuff going on on the screen at the same time.
Towards the end there's just the face morphing without anything else happening in the background.

So, I think if you continued with the morphing lines in the background as well, this flash would be even better.

thanks man, you're exactly right, and I regret not doing more in the background. oh well, it my first flash to pass, so I'm not too bummed about it, but I plan on spending more time on the next one.

thanks for the review.

Funny, but sound quality is rather low

This is a funny little piece, but it's a bit hard to undestand the punchline because of the low sound quality. Maybe you could add subtitles, this would get rid of any sound problems immediately, as everyone could simply read the subtitles for a better understanding.

The graphics are very simple, but it fits to the flash. Still, some more work for the background could add a bit more quality to the flash. A seagull flying by or some clouds or maybe even a mast. This would give the viewer something more to look at than just the characters.

Also in the beginning there's a small white line visible at the top of the screen, which really doesn't look too good there.

I don't really have a lot to say about this because I fixed everything you said to fix, but thank you for the review!

Good flash

Lemon Demon has some pretty nice songs, that seem just to be made to create flash animations to. This song is no expection. I like how you animated the song, showing Samuel and Rosella doing all those nasty things.

At first I thought both where moving a bit too slow, but since they are old (and the lyrics even say they where moving slow) and you timed your animations very good to the lyrics it fits pretty well here.

What I liked most was that you never used the same scene twice. Sure, they where standing in front of the mall a few times, and this "newspaper goes down, Samuel and Rosella look at each other" was there more than once. But you always changed a few things here and there, for example the headlines of the newspaper, or how they where trying to blow up the mall.
It's those tiny details that make a good flash stand out from the other good flashes on Newgrounds. :D

I also liked how you hid the caption on/off button when the mouse wasn't hovering over it. But the captions where sometimes hard to read. A small white box where the captions appear in might have been better. At least then the captions could be read more easily.

The song itself was great and funny, too bad the sound quality is a bit low. But everything can be understood just fine, so I guess you lowered the quality a bit to make the flash size a bit smaller.

Thanks. I've had a few people say something about the sound quality now. It was just compressed so it would load quickly. I'll make it better. I did try to put in some little extras for the detail oriented. Like the clock in the shop shows the actual time, and a few things you can zoom in on to read that aren't obvious at normal scale. Some things don't look the same every time you watch, either.

Hard to understand

Speakonia is a good tool if used wisely and with care. In this flash it is very hard to understand what's being said. Subtitles would help, too I guess.

Also, sometimes the images jumped around on the screen, which looks pretty noobish. Okay, it's a clock day submission, but with very little effort all images can be set on the same exact spot on every frame, thus avoiding the "jumping around".

YukariYakumo responds:

Subtitles? If I use Speakonia again, I'll be sure to use them. And as for the jumping around, yes, it was lazy and "noobish". Ran and I had to figure out the whole Flash program, including Actionscript for buttons, in five hours, so next time it will be much better since we've had so much longer to work on our skills.

Nice parody

Well, in my country the "I'm a PC, I'm a Mac"-commercial isn't shown anywhere, so I only know a few of those that I watched on youtube.

Anyway, I think this is a prett good parody. It is an interesting concept to include Sonic with his own product in here.

The voice acting is pretty nice and even though you used some filters for the voices (or at least it sounds as if you did) everything is easy to understand which is always a big plus. ^^

The graphcis could use a bit more work, though. The characters look all pretty sloppy and when Mac got shot he only had a strange looking red ball on his head. There are a few good tutorials in the flash portal that teach you how to draw realistic blood, so my advice is that you check them out. ^^

RecD responds:

thanks, haggard. I did make a new flash with slightly better graphics, so check my user page if you want to check it out (sorry no html in responses) It's called "The Trix Fix"

Good attempt

So this is your first real flash? Yeah, I can tell you put a lot of work into it.
Of course it doesn't look as good as flashes in the top 50, but I'm really those artist too started out creating simple movies like this.

There are a lot of details here that I like. For example the eyelids. You used them in a very good way to show the feelings of the characters. It's a simple but very effective way to show how a character feels about a certain thing.

Also, the story was nice, too. It's simple yes. But at least you didn't just have a bunch of characters killing each other. Well yes, that one guy gets killed, but it's not like the whole flash only consits of mindless killing.

So, keep practicing and I'm sure that you will create much better flashes in the very near future. :)

Thanks for your review, and it took me a while to realize this is only the first episode. I think with the other ones I'm slowly getting better,

Metal Slug is a WIN!

Haha, this is at least better than my clock day flashes. But the zombies could have at least walked into the bullets (why did they stop halfway through the right side anyway?), and a death animation would definitely look better as if they just disappear into nothing.

Fro responds:

Yeah, but if I did all that stuff it would defeat the purpose of clock day.
