Good song

This is a very nice tune. I like listening to it, as I like the rhythm and the melodies a lot here.
At the same time I also enjoy doing various stuff (surfing the web, writing posts, writing this review) while listening to it. The song doesn't require my full attention, but instead it keeps itself very nice in the background. So I think this works really well as a background track.

I also like that this track is over 6 minutes long, so if this really is a background track in a flash players wouldn't have to worry to hear the same tune being repeated over and over again, since this track is so long.

The only real flaw I noticed is at 5:03 (or 5:04). The timing seems to be a bit off here and it sounds a little bit strange.

thanks for feedback. I am not sure about that 5:03 part though, I've listened this song so much on repeat and probably got used to it

Good song, nice vocal samples

I like the rhythm of the song. It doesn't change too much throughout the song, but it gets stuck in my head and it also creates a pretty nice atmosphere.

I also like the added vocal samples, they make the song much more enjoyable as they fit perfectly to the music and intensify the nice atmosphere.

The outro is done in a good way as well. The slow fade out fits very good here; but maybe the silence at the end of the song is a bit too long.

Anyway, I like this song.

I'm glad you liked the vocal samples, they were a very new experiment for me. Thanks for the review!

Very nice

I like this song. There are various instruments mixed together, but they all go along togther very fine. I like how the background melody stays almost the same throughout the song without getting annoying. Instead, it creates a very mellow atmosphere.

The saxophone/trumpet at around 2 minutes plays a tune that reminds me a bit of L.A. Noire, heh.
But still, I wouldn't call this track "sad". It has a very relaxing effect on me, but I don't feel sad when listening to this song.

Haha, it was a trumpet. And yeah, I suppose it's not exactly sad while it's not exactly happy either. Thanks for the review!

Good song

I like how you always manage to create images and sceneries in my head. Usually, I'm a very uncreative person. I'm not very good at creating stories or sceneries. But while listening to your songs I always have some ideas rushing through my mind.

This time it's based in a western atmosphere, much like it is portraied in a Sergio Leone movie (maybe because the whistling sound reminds me of Ennio Morricones songs for the Leone movies). Some cowboys are coming into a town. They are dirty because they traveled very far. The townsmen are not very fond of those figures as they usually mean a lot of trouble.

But the twist here is that those cowboys are actually the good guys, haha.

Anyway, this is a really nice song. The only thing that you can do to make it better is to make it longer. ^^

It seems all my songs are too short. XD

I am really pleased that my songs let your imagination loose. As I write, my imagination generally goes all over the place and kicks into overdrive (kinda like when I write constructive reviews) with new ideas and paths to take. Eventually my mind gets tired and I end up writing an ending. I have a feeling that part of my style echoes back to the late Romanticism with music filled to the brim with imagery.

Thanks for the review.

Nice song

This is a pretty nice song. I especially like the bass line here. Usually you don't get to hear bass lines very often in songs because the other instruments are mixed so loud that they simply overpower the bass.

I also like the mix of clean melodies and slightly distorted chorus. This adds a lot of varity to the song and it just sounds nice.

In my opinion this song would be even better if you could find someone to sing along to this song. Of course you would also need some lyrics... but anyway, the song still is nice!

EagleGuard responds:

Thanks Haggard ;)

Glad people like the bass line, perhaps I'll make the bass more notable in future songs as well.

Unfortunately, I don't have the singing experience required to be able to sing in my own music, so I may need to find someone else to do so...

Anyway, thanks for the review! =)

Very nice

I really like this song. Makes me wish I could play the piano. It's one of my favorite instruments, even though I usually don't listen to music where the piano plays a big role. But whenever I hear songs like this I think "What a wonderful instrument!"

Anyway, the song is played very nice. I like how the higher notes are so "present" in the beginning. The bass notes only accompany the melody that is created by the higher notes. A very nice effect.

Also, the melody sounds very familiar. At first I thought this sounded a lot like the intro to "Twin Peaks", but that's not it. Maybe it's just the chord progression you played here (if that's the right term to use...) and maybe some other artist used it in his or her song as well.

I think this is a great song and I did feel the "love's embrace" while listening to this. I also like how this song has this "atmosphere of love" to it without being overly kitschy.

Thanks for the review! I'm glad you liked it! I'm sure you could learn the piano if you wanted to. ^^

One hour and thiry minutes for this? Wow...

The beginning of this little piece is a bit sad, so I imagined a lonely house upon a hill in a rainy night. But shortly after the sad part the song became more happy and cheering, so I instead imagined an open grass field, the sun is shining, maybe some kids running around, enjoying themselves.

But then the song takes yet another twist and some marching like melody sets in, so my imagination shifts again, this time to some sort of fantasy like city. A bit dark here and there but overall a nice place to live at. In the background some huge army is marching towards... well, I couldn't make up my mind, where those troops are marching. Maybe they are enemy troops, marching towards the town? Or maybe they are friendly troops, coming back from a battle?

Anyway, I really like this song. :)

samulis responds:

I love the imagery you invoke in your review... I always like having a second interpretation of the piece aside from my own.

I was asked to write a piece that was both Dark and Powerful, hence the minor beginning and evolution into the brilliant light of some high strings. I then took the lead-in only providence and some thought could have provided and led it into a war-like song as a sort of second movement.

Thanks for the great review again, it means a lot more than just numbers to me!

Good track

This track is actually pretty cool, even though the loop is only 14 seonds long, which is pretty short. But I like the melody and the bass line here a lot.

The "drums" (if you want to call them that) have the typical "8-bit-dirtiness" that we all love so much (meaning that they don't sound too clean, but more like a snare drum).

However, I think the loop isn't exactly accurate. I might be wrong, but once the loop reaches the end and starts over, there's one quarter of a beat missing. At least that what it sounds to me. Just a tad bit off, but it's enough so that it sounds strange.

Sadly I noticed that as well, after carful examination of the file I noticed that there is a moment of 0 before and after the song.

Thank you for the review, I always appreciate honest critique!

Needs better mastering

This song sounds good. I like how you constantly add new things to it, that way the listener never grows tired while listening to this track.

I also like the melodies a lot. They have a tendency to become stuck in my ear for the rest of the day.

However, I think the mixing and equalizing isn't that good here. Some melodies are A LOT louder than others. For example from 2:00 to 2:16 the song is very quiet and then all of a sudden the louder melody sets in again.
I also think I can here some clipping from time to time. Especially when the percussions are playing. Especially at 0:43 it sounds very much like clipping.

Horsenwelles responds:

the percs are very compressed in this track, i know... this is a base for a live recording that i mixed quickly and sent out lol.

anyway, thanks for the nice words, and the EQ can be fixed no problem =)

Good song

I really like this song. It's very calm and just like you said, sounds like something you can hear when the credits roll. But it could also be used as background music during a movie.

I like the relaxing sound of it and it keeps itself very nice in the background. So it gives us something to listen without distracting us from the movie scene.

The strings are pretty good here. They create a very nice "ancient" atmosphere and they go along surprisingly well with the more modern background music.
