...

The beginning of this track sounds a bit strange. That second "bell sound" is a tad bit too early, in my opinion. It just sounds weird to me (note: after listening to the song a second time the bells don't sound weird to me. I really don't know what put me off there the first time...)

Anyway, after a somewhat "weird" start the track gets better towards the end. Once you start introducing other instruments the track creates a very nice atmosphere. Quite relaxing.
Too bad the song is so short, though. I think it gets better the longer it plays, so I was a bit disappointed when it ended so suddendly after I started to like the track.

You got talent!

A pretty good reel. You have a great range of voices and all of them sound very realistic and not overdone at all.

The problem with voice reels is that there almost always is no real story to it. It would be really cool if you could come up with some sort of conversation between various characters (all voiced by yourself of course), which would make listening to this a lot more interesting. ^^

Anyway, very nice voices, you are a very talented voice actor!

Rabidssquirrel responds:

Thanks! And I totally agree with you! Initially, I was writing a little reel/story to showcase the voices, though in the end just didn't have the time to sit down and write, though I plan to do so for my next thing! Thanks for pointing it out though and reaffirming that I should try doing that!

Thanks again! :)

Interesting

A very calm but interesting song. It starts off very slowly, almost too slow for me. But after about 30 seconds the song starts to become a bit faster and better.

I really like the atmosphere that is created. It's very mellow and almost melancholic, which I really like here. Also, sometimes the drums sound a bit like a train that's going along on it's tracks. I think this intensifies the mellow atmosphere and it also creates a slight feeling of wanderlust.

Sounds messy

I can't help it, but this song sounds really messy to me. There doesn't seem to be a clear and distinctive main melody (or any melody for that matter) present in this song. The synth litereally go everywhere, high and low, up and down. I think it would be better if they wouldn't be so confusing.

But I like the intro here. The melody here is good, but as I've said, the song gets rather messy later on.

Relaxing

I like this song. It's almost perfect for a nice sunny Sunday like it is today. :)

The song is very relaxing and those "wind effects" (at 1:06 for example. Don't know if this really is a "wind effect", though ^^) is very fitting in this song, as it intensifies the relaxing mood the song creates.

I also like that the song stays so calm the whole way through. It doesn't get boring once, even though there are no real climaxes in this song. But the atmosphere of the song would be destroyed if there where any loud parts in it.

Kieda responds:

It's kind of wind effect :P (clap with a lot of reverb and some automated filter).

Thanks for the review (: Let's hope the sun will shine whole day!

Two songs for the price of one

This sounds a bit like two songs in one. The beginning is very slow and the bass is almost non present. The atmosphere is almost relaxing here.

The transition at 1:27 is a bit of a surprise, but I think it's a nice surprise. Now the second part of the song offers a very heavy bass and some very nice breaks.
We still can hear the melodies used in the first part of the song, but now with heavier bass. The relaxing atmosphere is gone and it was replaced by a very "driving" atmo.

Overall it's a good song.

Glad you liked it!

If I could suggest something....when you give a rating below a perfect score, explain why you gave that score. You kind of left me hanging here because you gave it an 8 and I have no idea why :P

But thanks for reviewing!

Good song

This is a pretty good song. I like the melodies here and the song is quite relaxing. Even though the melodies - especially the main melody - repeats very often during the song it doesn't get repititve or boring at all. In fact, the constant repitation of the melodies increase the relaxing feel I get when listening to the song.

However, the song sounds a bit too melancholic for me, which is a bit contradicting the title. "Idyllic" shouldn't be "melancholic", at least for me. Maybe if the song was a tad bit faster it wouldn't sound so melancholic. But that's nitpicking and it won't affect the score.

But I think megakill is right. The levels of the instruments (especially the clarinet) is a bit too high. But on the other hand, I wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't for megakill's review, so it can't be THAT bad ^^.

WizMystery responds:

I envisioned "Idyllic Memories" to be a nostalgic longing for better days, melancholy always accompanying nostalgia in my case.

I'm re-panning things and sending it to milkcarton for mastering so whatever's wrong with it will go away.

Thanks for the review!

Good song

This is a very good song. The atmosphere it creates is a bit hard to describe, though. It's somewhere between sad, melancholic and creepy.

I like the strings very much here. They play a calm, yet somewhat creepy melody (I think the creepiness is created because they play so slow and deep).
Even though the song is indeed repetitive I don't see this as an disadvantage here. It only denses the atmosphere in this case.

The only thing that bothers me is the outro. The quick fade out feels a bit out of place here. Maybe it would have been better to end the song on a single string note. But I'm really nitpicking here.

Wonderchild responds:

I do see what you mean with the outro. I was feeling a bit lazy and did a fade effect with the instruments that I had going. Maybe I will go back and change it, see if I like the sound of it.
Thanks for the review!

Good rhythm

I like the rhythm here very much. It sounds pretty good and I found myself tapping my foot along to it.

The songs starts off quite slow but gets a bit faster paced at around the one minute mark. The transition from "slow" to "fast paced" is a bit abrupt, but I quite like it either way.

I only wished the song was a bit longer though. Shortly after the good rhythm and the faster pace start the song ends already, which is a real pity in my opinion.

Also, there are a few silent seconds at the end of the track. Maybe you should edit them out.

Interesting

Good thing I don't know what the original sounds like, so I don't have any pictures in my mind while listening to this song.

I must say the "epical orchestral feeling" of this piece sounds pretty good. The melodies are very fitting for this kind of set up and the atmosphere created by the instruments is very euphoric and good.

I also like the dynamics of this song. The quieter parts build a very good contrast to the louder parts. Good song!

thanks for the review! More remixes to come.

I like composing classical music for those very reasons you described :D
