One hour and thiry minutes for this? Wow...

The beginning of this little piece is a bit sad, so I imagined a lonely house upon a hill in a rainy night. But shortly after the sad part the song became more happy and cheering, so I instead imagined an open grass field, the sun is shining, maybe some kids running around, enjoying themselves.

But then the song takes yet another twist and some marching like melody sets in, so my imagination shifts again, this time to some sort of fantasy like city. A bit dark here and there but overall a nice place to live at. In the background some huge army is marching towards... well, I couldn't make up my mind, where those troops are marching. Maybe they are enemy troops, marching towards the town? Or maybe they are friendly troops, coming back from a battle?

Anyway, I really like this song. :)

I love the imagery you invoke in your review... I always like having a second interpretation of the piece aside from my own.

I was asked to write a piece that was both Dark and Powerful, hence the minor beginning and evolution into the brilliant light of some high strings. I then took the lead-in only providence and some thought could have provided and led it into a war-like song as a sort of second movement.

Thanks for the great review again, it means a lot more than just numbers to me!

Good track

This track is actually pretty cool, even though the loop is only 14 seonds long, which is pretty short. But I like the melody and the bass line here a lot.

The "drums" (if you want to call them that) have the typical "8-bit-dirtiness" that we all love so much (meaning that they don't sound too clean, but more like a snare drum).

However, I think the loop isn't exactly accurate. I might be wrong, but once the loop reaches the end and starts over, there's one quarter of a beat missing. At least that what it sounds to me. Just a tad bit off, but it's enough so that it sounds strange.

Sadly I noticed that as well, after carful examination of the file I noticed that there is a moment of 0 before and after the song.

Thank you for the review, I always appreciate honest critique!

Good melody

The guitar-ish synth sure sounds nice, but I'm afraid nobody could play it with bending the strings the whole time like this. I know I couldn't do it, but on the other hand, I'm not really a skilled guitarist. Anyway, the melody still sounds nice.

I also like the slow down during the middle of the song. I'm not sure if this really fits into a boss fight, but for the track alone it works pretty good.

I noticed some "sound errors" throughout the song, as if the drum pad overpowers all the other instruments. It's very noticeable at around 00:26 to 0:39. So I suggest turning down the volume or the bass of that drum pad a bit.

Needs better mastering

This song sounds good. I like how you constantly add new things to it, that way the listener never grows tired while listening to this track.

I also like the melodies a lot. They have a tendency to become stuck in my ear for the rest of the day.

However, I think the mixing and equalizing isn't that good here. Some melodies are A LOT louder than others. For example from 2:00 to 2:16 the song is very quiet and then all of a sudden the louder melody sets in again.
I also think I can here some clipping from time to time. Especially when the percussions are playing. Especially at 0:43 it sounds very much like clipping.

Horsenwelles responds:

the percs are very compressed in this track, i know... this is a base for a live recording that i mixed quickly and sent out lol.

anyway, thanks for the nice words, and the EQ can be fixed no problem =)

Good song

I really like this song. It's very calm and just like you said, sounds like something you can hear when the credits roll. But it could also be used as background music during a movie.

I like the relaxing sound of it and it keeps itself very nice in the background. So it gives us something to listen without distracting us from the movie scene.

The strings are pretty good here. They create a very nice "ancient" atmosphere and they go along surprisingly well with the more modern background music.

Good song

I think this is a good track. I love the tempo of this song, it makes it sound quite dramatic, so it could be used in a good range of video games. Fighting games, or even adventure games, during an action sequence.

I also like the various "slow parts" (or "breaks") during the song, they add a special note to it, which makes it worth listen.

Thanks alot man, realy appreciate it :)

Good atmo

I like that deep space atmosphere that is created by the background bass here a lot. Only thing is: It is so quiet! I think you should turn it up just a little bit, so I don't have to turn my speakers all the way up.

The other disadvantage is: The track is so short! Not even two minutes long, and this is a real pity. The track is pretty good, so it's a real shame it's over so quickly.

Good remix

The intro is a bit too long, I think. It takes over one minute until we can hear the "dubstep" in the "dubstep remix". But once the dubstep sets in, it sounds pretty cool. I like the deep bass here and that you keep some of the original melodies intact.

The outro is done pretty good. Only the piano playing here, slower and slower (I think "ritardando" is the correct word here) until the final note is played. Nice work!

Good song, nice idea

This is a very good song. I like the idea of turning "The Crucible" into a song. The medival instruments are very fitting here, since the play takes place in the 17th cenutry, after all.

I also like the transitions between the various parts. It sounds as if the song is over, but just before the last note of the previous part rings out the next part starts. I like that a lot.

Maybe the first part "Dancing in the Woods" could have a slightly more mystic atmosphere to it. Right now it sounds a bit too happy to me and not like some occultic thing going on in the depths of the woods.

samulis responds:

Thanks for the feedback, I'll look into a more mystic approach to dancing in the woods during the happier bits (perhaps some minor stuff).

Funny

This is silly, but very funny at the same time. I feel a bit reminded of the Adam's Family by the melodies here and I found myself tapping the foot along to the rhythm.

This track could very well be part of a game, some sort of comical horror game (if that does make any sense...).

Oh yeah, the part where your voice comes in is my favorite, haha.

JPRixdorfer responds:

Well, silly and funny was pretty much what I was going for with this one, so it seems like mission accomplished. I never thought of it as reminding of anything horror related, but comical horror might just work :) and the Adams Family should be the perfect example of a well working horror / comedy genre clash.
The voice part was a very late addition to the song. It existed for about a year when I realized putting high pitched voices in there might make it 15% sillyer, so I did.

Thanks for the review! *hug*
