You've shamed your families honor...

Seppuku seems to be the only way out now. :(

it's an automatic ban when we destroy a thread. it bans everyone who posts in the thread. Your message was a bit backseat moddy anyway and probably shouldn't have been posted to begin with.

the more you know ~~~~~~*

"it's an automatic ban when we destroy a thread. it bans everyone who posts in the thread."

That's what I thought, thanks for letting me know.

You are right with saying that I should have avoided the topic in the first place, but is directing users to the right forum already backseat modding? In my opinion it's just being helpful. Maybe not in the topic that got me banned as it was a spam topic, but if a user has a flash related question and another user directs him to the flash forum, is that really backseat modding?

if all you say is "this belongs in the flash forum" yeah, that's backseat moderating. It's along the lines of if you don't know the answer, you shouldn't post. Since places where those questions pop up (like in where is/how to and programming) are slow enough, a mod will be able to redirect any threads if necessary.

Since you're not a moderator, you don't exactly have the authority to decide what does and doesn't belong in certain places. For the most part, the problem arises when people get too complacent with not bothering to answer questions and feel they can tell people where they should/should not post topics and wind up providing wrong information or links.

In short, it's best to let a mod do it than to risk the auto ban or the backseat modding ban.

Ok, thanks for clarifying that.

I will avoid those topics in the future. :)

I hate when that happens, but I guess we all learn our lesson eventually..I haven't been banned in a while..So I hope I'll be banfree now..

The last time I was banned before my recent ban is a long time ago. I think I got banned for posting in a spam thread on General (yes, there was a time when I was posting on general).

I was recently banned for a week because I called someone a faggot.

It annoyed me deeply.

I think Wade created a topic about calling other users names. We where discussing in the LUL if british users are allowed to talk about faggots ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fagg ot_(food) ) or fags ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fag ). ^^

I've been banned just 3 times. The 1st time it was because I was posting too quick and the other two are from posting in spam threads.

Here's a tip, if you don't know if the thread you're going to post is spam or not, don't post at all.

It works for me and I haven't got any ban again since May 2008.

"Here's a tip, if you don't know if the thread you're going to post is spam or not, don't post at all."

That's what I usually do, but at that time I just tried to be helpful. Didn't know I was doing (slightly) backseat modding and didn't expect the thread to get deleted at all. In my opinion the thread wouldn't have been as spammy in the video games forum. ^^

Also, before my recent ban I haven't been banned since at least 2003... but I don't post that often anyway. XD

I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH LIMESCALE, RUST, GROUND IN DIRT.

HELP ME, BARRY SCOTT, I'M DESPERATE!

I just sent you a years supply of Cilit Bang. This should help you out.
