Partly random, partly well laid out flash. At least that's what it seems to be to me. ^^

The graphics are quite nice and I like the "paper-like" background. It adds a lot to the flash and looks so much better than a plain white background.

The musical choices are excellent and I like the changeovers from one song to the next song. However, there's no song called "Vanilla Sky" by Radiohead. The song is called "Everything in it's right place" ;) (but it was featured in the movie "Vanilla Sky").

Thanks for that.
Now I know.

This is a very nice movie. I especially like the part where you "pick up" the chalk box with your fingers. This looks very realistic!

Too bad some scenes go by so fast, maybe it would help if you turn down the FPS a bit (but then again it might look a bit choppy if you do that).

The music and the sound fx are great and fit very well into the movie.

I can imagine that those kind of movies are very hard work, but I sure do hope that you will make some more of this kind! :)

Graeme responds:

Thanks, always glad to hear from you :D

I do plan to make another at some point in time.
They don't take as long as you think. It's just awkward putting aside time to work on one.

The bad thing, is you don't notice if a scene is too fast until after its done. And by then the only options are keep it, or do it over. So I just kept them.
For the next one I'll take my time with more inbetweens.

The sprites are very well animated and the fight scenes are nice and very fluent. You also had a nice story to offer which is a big plus for you, as most "fighting flashes" I have watched only offered long boring fights.

The subtitels are a nice thing in general, as they tend to look much better that speech bubbles. You also made it very clear which character was saying which line due to the pictures and the color of the sub title bar. Nice!
However, the text went by a bit too fast. I guess it's very hard to find a good solution for this problem. If the text stays too long it get's boring really quick, if the text is gone too fast I can't follow the story. If you put in a "Next"-Button I can read at my own pace, but I have to click the button to advance the story, which too can be very annoying...
Still I think a small button would be the best solution here.

Then you should change the background colour of Sean's sub title bar to something darker. Sometimes I couldn't read the text, because the background was so bright.

The music was quite nice and really fits well into the flash. But you should try to compress the files a bit more. 8 MB is quite a hughe file size and usually is only reached if the flash either is very graphics intense or contains uncompressed sound and music files... maybe it would help if you cut down on the kbps-rate a bit (128 kbps or even 96kbps should be enough for a flash, in my opinion).

I missed this flash when it first entered the portal (well, I saw it and saved it, but didn't had the time to review). So I'm glad I come arount to review it now.

It's one of your best birthday flashes, in my opinion. Just because I like the character model of BH so much. ^^
But also the story was a bit different from your usual birthday flashes as you had a good story for this one.

Also, the "end part" of this flash where I could highlight BH gave me a good laugh! :)

PS: Fagamut is not to be killed! Faggard would be very sad...

kinggila responds:

Faggard, that faggot. XD

My favorite episode so far. "The Who" are one of the greatest bands ever!

Also, Adolf once again showed that he really is a master of disguise. No wonder that he is so successful on his current journey.

AfroUnderscoreStud responds:

That they are. :)

Pretty cold there in Geneva, the Smoochum never had a chance. It froze to the ground, so that Adolf had an easy time catching it.
After all Adolf is used to cold weather, since he invaded Russia in winter time.

AfroUnderscoreStud responds:

That Smoochum wasn't frozen to the ground!

Well, this looks very rushed. As if it was done in about 5 hours... hey wait!

Ok, seriously now. The graphics look quite nice. I like the background in the first scene (where dad says he has to walk to the store). Nice shading there. Also the colours are very well chosen.

When he walked to the store the background was moving into the wrong direction, but you already know that.

Voice acting would have been good here, but I guess you had no time for that. The speech bubbles you used are ok as well, as you chose a font that is very easy to read (and the white background made it even easier).

The music is quite good, but it starts and ends too abrupt. A little fade in/fade out would sound better, I guees.

Overall, the movie has a lot of potential, it just needs some small fixes here and there.

Cranksta responds:

Thanks for the detailed review, and yea, i know what you mean about the music, we were limited to sound recorder for sound editing. Such fine facilities we worked with, let's hope the Nationals will have better software. Plus we are going with frame by frame animation style in Calgary as we can draw very fast and effective, so have an eye out for that. Also if you can give us any tips for the Nationals May 24-28th, send me your MSN or something, I don't know how PM's work on NG.

Peace,
James

Very nice flash and a very good "birthday present". The voice acting is good as always and I think the graphics have improved a little bit compared to some of your older flashes. So stop being lazy and work on your graphics a bit more! :P

Wow, that was very... um... random. Some scenes were hilarious (like the Monty Python scene), others were pretty bad.

Most of the time it was very hard to understand what the different characters were saying, so you should try to improve the sound quality a bit. Also a nice background would be nice. White backgrounds are a bit lame...

'...Others were pretty bad."

Please elaborate. I'd like to know what hit and what missed. I have aspirations to awesome, but I need to know a general sense of what I trying to appeal to.

April Fool's Jokes are always kinda lame. I never understood why people need a extra day to fool other people.

Well, at least you put some effort into this, you didn't "Rick Roll" but "Rig Roll" people, heh...
For the Blue Hippo you'll get an extra star from me! ^^

gumOnShoe responds:

It wouldn't have been worth it for me if there hadn't been some creativity to it. Of course, April Fool's jokes are supposed to be lame anyway, its so that you can get over it and laugh at yourself as well. And even if you don't find them funny, hopefully you were light enough at heart to smile.
