Bubble Blitz

"Good game"

submission: Bubble Blitz
date: November 22, 2009

A nice little game with pretty good controls and a nice concept. The training modes explained very well what I could expect from this game and they also explained how to play it. ^^

Some things came in the game unexpected, though. At first I didn't even notice the pipes where blowing out air. I thought it was a nother obstacle that destroys my bubble. So, a warning of other things in the tutorial like Kirbyfemur suggests would be a nice thing.

Also, the time on the challenge levels was pretty tight, but... that's why they are called a "challenge", right? ^^

"Random"

submission: Dufflebag Dud
date: November 15, 2009

The graphical style is interesting and looks like old disney cartoons from the 40s, which is pretty nice, by the way.

The music could also be from one of those old cartoons and it fits very nice to the style of the graphics.

Too bad the story is kind of random and doesn't make that much sense. Maybe the "missing reel" wasn't that good of an idea. Also, the Carl Johnson with the monocle at the end didn't fit in the flash too good either and only adds to the randomness of this submission.

So, while the graphics and sound are nice the story sadly is not, which is why I can only give you 6 out of 10 stars. :(

The Sculpture

"Awesome"

submission: The Sculpture
date: November 15, 2009

At first I thought you got the scenes from an old cartoon or some old CD-i game, because the graphical style really reminds me of some of the retro comic series I used to watch as a kid.

The story is pretty interesting and the SCP foundation sounds interesting as well.

I really like the scene where we watch the statue move through the eyes of one of the personell. Just like him we can only helplessly watch how the statue slowly moves closer and closer until it reached his collegue and kills him. The next blink and we watch right in the face of the statue.

I also like that the story is kind of open ended. We can see that his eyes slowly close, but before they are fully closed the flash ends. So, either the organisation send in some men to help, or the poor guy bites the dust after all.
I would prefer the first ending, because he's the only one who reacted like they where told, except for when the door suddendly closed, heh.

Also, the voice acting is pretty good. There are a few static sounds, though. And when the first victim goes to the statue there are like three voices at once, and none of them can be clearly understood. So, you should try to fix that.

Other than that, this flash is awesome.

Author's Response:

Yeah, I felt after watching my own animation that it sort of resembled old cartoon cutscenes from LucasArts graphical adventure games. I agree definitely on my audio issues, when I finally exported it from Premiere, somehow I must have really turned up the volume on 'HEY' and I was too frustrated to go and fix it at the time. I'm working on a better menu and a subtitles option to update it with later, so I'll probably do some audio fixes when I update. Thanks for the review, I'm glad you liked it!

Bloody Sundae

"Good submission"

submission: Bloody Sundae
date: November 8, 2009

This submission combines humour with seriousness pretty good. There are some things to laugh about, like when the girl first discovers the cannibal. At first she's shocked, but then asks: "Are you a vampire? *smile*"

Pretty good irony in this scene. Also, the eating scene reminded me a bit of the famous scene from Resident Evil where the zombie eats one of his victims and he then turns around.

Anyway, the ending was good as well. It's funny how he first hesitates and then says: "Ah, fuck it" and goes on killing the girl anyway. You laugh at first, but when the camera sooms out and shows she is only a few yards away from where she meant to go... the laughter really laughter stuck in my throat.

The Creep

"Nice"

submission: The Creep
date: November 8, 2009

This is a pretty nice submission. The storyline may not be that original, but I like what you did with it. I liked the part where the arm attached itself to the dead body.

Also, the scene just before that, where the hand rips off the face of the man is pretty awesome, haven't seen anything like that before. :D
And the guy was a lousy shooter anyway, he didn't even hit the hand. :P

It was a bit weird at first to not hear any sound effects, but I think the flash workes quite well without sound effects, as the music is pretty good.

Well, the ending was unexpected, but it gave me a good laugh. But there's some pretty nasty static sound, I guess that's because the bass is too deep.

:The Dot Game:

"Decent attempt"

submission: :The Dot Game:
date: November 8, 2009

The controls are pretty good, the physics work out quite well. There are some nasty bugs here and there, sometimes the dot just falls through the plattform when it's not supposed to do so. Also in level 8 I fell through the plattform (yeah, the dot is supposed to do that), but the level didn't restart. Instead I just had a white screen.
Also, the music suddendly stops on level 15, which is a bit weird.

You should try to add some backgrounds into the game. It looks a lot nicer than just a white screen. It would be even better (but a lot harder) if the backgrounds where involved in the gameplay. Instead of just giving us black lines as plattforms chose some objects from the background we could jump on. This would make the game a lot more insteresting.

"Looks rushed"

submission: Dodraugen
date: November 8, 2009

And it really is rushed if you did this in only 2 to 3 hours. The graphics look decent, even though the bathroom really looks like a living room, heh.

Also I wondered why he was sitting with his pants on on the toilet and the toilet seat wasn't even raised.

The sewers didn't look that realistic and the pipe was just odd. Looked like you only cut out those parts from the picture. Anyway, it looks weird and too rushed.

When that creature came out of the toilet the guy was still sitting there. Would have been better if he fell off the toilet or something, now the creature just goes right through him.

Anyway, if you can come up with such a movie in such a short amount of time then I really want to see some movies from you where you put more effort and more time in it. ^^

Yings Unfinished Business

"Some good work in here"

date: November 8, 2009

A pretty nice submission, even though most of the work showcased isn't finished. In fact, the only finished work are the logos. But anyway, here's what I think of the movies:

Around the Galaxy: Starts very mysterious, then it changes to a more comical atmosphere when the star hits that planet. A promising start, I hope you finish that one. ;)

Preggo: Pretty nice opening, it reminds me of some sitcom intro (like "I Dream of Jeannie"). The music fits pretty well to the opening. Some of scenes are a bit too fast paced though, so it's quite hard to read the text and look at the enviroment at the same time. The zooming in on the house was done in a quite nice way.

Ying's Logo: A nice logo, only the transformation into the 8-bit like graphics seems a little off.

Lizzard and Fish: Again a nice opening, but some scenes are too fast paced. The graphics get pretty sloppy towards the end, but maybe that's just because you didn't finished the flash. ^^

Commercialize this: This was my favorite movie. The graphics are nice and the lip syncing of the girl with the song is done good as well. There where some statics when the tank drives through the scenery, though.
Also, I didn't really understand the scene change from the boy and girl to the tank. Yet, it still is my favorite movie. ^^

Kasja Productions Logo: Another good logo, but again there where some too fast paced scenes, heh...

Also, the quick facts you presented after each movie are a nice idea. You explain what you where working on and what you wanted the movie to be about. This helped a lot to understand the scenes and it certainly is much nicer than only watching the unfinished movies. Then the viewer couldn't make too much sense out of some of the movies.

Also, I liked the menu, especially that text box. "Enjoying the music is fine, too." :D

Author's Response:

What a good review!

That 'planet' in "Around the Galaxy" is actually a character - hopefully you can see his point gray arms below him and his little antenna...and his eyes...I really hope you can see those.

Preggo: Understandable, one of my earlier missions was to erase the text in the opening scene.

Lizard and fish: At the end I was just sick and tired of it so I just slapped things together at the end. keep in mind I was a depressed little thirteen year old at the time.

Commercialize this: Was going to have a later scene which would have explained the first scene of the two singing.

Kasja productions: It's just what my friend wanted - I tried slowing things down but he requested it be fast paced.

APA TU?! (what is that?!)

"Good short film"

date: October 22, 2009

This is a very good short film. Hardly a minute long, but very nice indeed. I think it's quite hard to get an anitmation in an actual film, as of course you can only imagine where the animation should appear in the picture and what it is doing. So it's a lot of work to get the timing right.

The biggest let down of this flash is the unsteady camera. A tripod seems to be a must for those kind of flashes, as the animation is in the picture itself, not in the real world. So, if the camera is unsteady, the animated figure seemingly jumps from place to place, even though it should stand absolutely still. It was most visible, when you stood up and filmed down in the backyard. The camera moves from left to right and so does the character, which looks very unrealistic and sort of destroys the nice image you created when the character first appeared on the screen and climbed up that wall.

Children's Lit. HW

"Nice"

submission: Children's Lit. HW
date: October 21, 2009

I don't know this book, but I like this flash. I like how you put some scenes in to illustrate what you are talking about. Especially the sad smiley for the "Emotional/Sappy Stuff", heh.

It would be nice to get to know a bit more about the story, though. But it wokrs well as a sales pitch, on the other hand. Sometimes commercials are like that: They don't give anything away about the story, but they simply ask you if you like this and that and that if you do like those things you should buy the product.
Might actually work, you should ask some book stores if they want to show this as a commercial. ^^

Too bad you had a cold while recording the voices. Normally your voice acting is fine, but in this flash it's much too quiet, especially in comparison to the loud music and sound effects.
